I’m a BRAND NEW bunny owner, so I may be going down the wrong track, but just wanted to let everyone know about the litter box I bought for my bunny.   It’s called a Yogi.  It’s actually for potty training a small dog, but I thought it would work well for my bun.

It’s 17" x 21".  It’s fairly flat with a plastic grate on top.  The idea is that the urine (and small pellets) will go through the grate into newspaper or whatever you choose to put underneath.  The top stays totally clean and dry.  It’s short in height, so my 8-week-old bun hops onto it with no problem.  I have his hay rack right next to it, and so far he sits on the Yogi eating his hay and doing his pee and poo business right in it.  I have newspaper in it and just empty it out each day and wipe down.

I use a grate in my litterbox too.  It makes it so much easier and keeps their feet out of the urine.  They always have clean tootsies!   I have not heard of the Yogi – do you have a picture of it or a website address?

            BinkyBunny:

Here’s the website of the people I bought it from: http://www.xtremedeals4u.com. Click on “pet toilet” on the left-hand side. They shipped FAST and it was better quality than I ever anticipated. You have to use either newspaper or pee-pee pads in it as it is not deep enough for anything else. Is that a good or bad idea? Does it matter? Please let me know what you think.

            Here’s their description:
“YOGI” Indoor Dog Toilet is a new revolutionary toilet system for dogs. Consisting of a durable plastic pan and fitted grate, liquid waste dispenses through the grate onto newspaper or pee pad, separated from your dog’s paws-No more wet, messy and smelly paw tracks throughout your house.

            Dimension: 21″W x 17″L (520x435mm)
            Material: Polypropylene
Use: Toilet for puppy and small dogs

Hrmmm, what a neat idea! Good for all bunnies (because it’s so easy to get onto), less space-consuming, and very clean. Thanks for mentioning this product, it looks really effective.
Too bad they don’t have one with slightly larger holes – I’d love to see one where all the waste (pellets and all) could fall in the holes without being discomforting to the bun. That would truly be a dream come true!
Too bad shipping to Canada is so pricy… I’ll have to keep my eyes open for some being sold around here

There are several other versions of this…just search for “dog toilet”. This one, however, seemed to have the smallest footprint overall, plus the price was the best. AND, shipping to Canada may be prohibitive for any of these products. You’ll just have to check. Maybe the local pet store carries something like this in the dog section, or maybe you could recommend they start carrying it…who knows.

Yeah, someone with more smarts than I have needs to take this design and fashion it with slightly larger holes for the bunnies! Plus, I don’t think that larger holes would have any real effect on small dogs using it.

Now that I’m thinking about it, some of the other products may have had larger holes in the grate…I didn’t really look at that ’cause I’m new to bunnies and didn’t take that into consideration. I was only concerned with the overall footprint…hmm…

I used to have something like that made out of sheet metal and a plasti-coated wire grate for my bunny ^Trixie^. That’s good to know they are marketing something like that again. Just curious, how is the smell though with just using newspaper?

So far, we have had absolutely NO PROBLEM with urine ordors. I do swap out the newspapers every day. Right now (and my bun is only 9 weeks old), about 2/3 of his poo pellets are falling through the holes. It’s large enough that he has NO CHOICE but to sit on it while he eats from his hay rack or even his food pellets.

We had initially brought home a corner box just because…well, just because we knew we had ordered the Yogi and needed something in the meantime. I have put this one in a different corner where he had taken to pee-peeing. In my opinion, it wasn’t practical over by the hay rack ’cause it was so small that he would just sit outside it while he ate the hay (and pooed).

There may be a way to simple snip through the plastic on the Yogi to expand the hole sizes.

                    Thanks,
                    Terry

Wow that’s great. I think I’ll have to check it out when I go for my litter run next time. Do you know if it is sold in a pet store or do you have to order it online?

                        I’ve only seen it on-line at http://www.xtremedeals4u.com.

I’ve only had my bunny for a week now, but it’s working very well.

Well, I was going to add a pic of my bunny and the box…BUT it apparently exceeds the allowable size of 300 KB.  I checked and mine are all over 1 MB…I have no idea how I’ll be able to change the file size.   The specific one I wanted to add was 1.5 MB.

Oh, well, you’ll just have to go to the website to take a peek at it.  Anyone who knows to get my picture added, please let me know!
