Well.. we are expanding our home.. we are going to get Lilly a husbun
.. but before we do that.. we need to get her an x-pen so we can put both bunnies out in the living room, since Lilly is WAY to destructive in the bedroom. So.. where did you get your x-pen? how much was it $$? how big (square feet, height) is it?
thanks!
You can purchase them at any large pet store chain like PetSmart, PetCo etc. They can be pretty expensive so it would pay to look around. I try to buy from pet stores/chains that do not sell rabbits as a personal choice and ended up getting an expandable baby play pen (without a bottom) at a garage sale instead.
I also know some members here were able to get xpens from Craigslist, and you can also check Ebay.
As I have said many times, Petco ONLINE has cheapest dog pen deals. You can get them down to $40-50 if you search for coupon codes online and use free shipping.
I got mine from Craigslist for $30
I got mine from Centinella feed – I got the biggest ones that are about 3 or 4 feet tall, and about 16 square feet – but they were pretty expensive, about $100
so it definitely pays to shop around, check out craigslist or ebay for sure, tho I think shipping would be pretty significant on these because they are so heavy!
I made mine! I used a box of storage cubes I got for $15 at Target and used cable ties to tie them together and small wooden dowels for support. It works fine, it’s tall enough that my bun can’t jump over it (two squares tall is about 30"
, and it’s easily foldable. Best of all , it was MUCH cheaper than buying an x-pen!!
I can take a picture later if you’re interested to see it, but for now, this is like what I used to build it: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=br_1_7/601-5031417-5386532?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&asin=B000LRBSFI
Pecto- it was about $60.
As I said, Petco ONLINE has free shipping on some of the brand of pens. And google for $10 or $15 off coupons….then you can get the price down to like 45
The prob about buying them online is simply the shipping. You can find a nice big pen for like $30, but then it’s like an addt’l $40 for shipping!!
digxmexnow that is really neat.. so you just clip them together however you want.. they aren’t prebuilt then right? because i dont know, if i have to cut metal or somthing, there is no way i can handle that!! but if i can pull them apart and clip them together that sounds amazing! yes if you can take a pic, id love it!
I actually have it set up right now because I’m bunny-sitting. I have it worked out so that it’s up against the wall, but of course, since it is in sections, you can shape it however you’d like. You can also decide on the height and length. 30" will usually do it even if you have a big bun.
The gate is held shut with spring clips so that it can easily be opened and closed, but the rest is held together with cable ties (which I have yet to trim, so they’re sticking out everywhere right now!). It also folds up easily if you need to store it.
I put Frankie in there to show the size… he’s a fairly large bunny.

You wouldn’t need to cut anything – they come in the box in individual squares to assemble. I built the enclosure with a single box of them. Total budget was like $20 including cable ties and dowels. You don’t actually need as many dowels for support as I put on, either. It would be fine on every other section.
That thing with the neat idea cubes is a really good idea. maybe I’ll get my BF to make one, he goes real nuts making sure the cubes are all color coordinated and such…he even cuts the cubes in half some times to get the appropriate heights etc. He’s quite the designer ![]()
poopy. you know when u keep saying that like that it makes u sound like the little kid on the universal studio’s/areohead watter commercial on the radio. at the end he yells “GUYS LISTEN TO ME!!!!! it says it right here on the label, if you buy a day, you get a year free!” hehehe i can just imagie u saying that. lol =P
i want one that is ideally at least 24 square feet.. but would like 36… where can i get that?
hmm you know who you should cpntact for that info too? caroline from bunny bunch. i remember her talking to someone about x-pens. was it you moobunny?
but i personally like to put together the cubes from the condos. if you use the medium/large zip-ties, they seem a lot more stable. my door to my condo is like that. no wire cutting necessary =)
well i just purchased a 16 square foot one.. we will see how it is.. i will buy another and add it on if it is too small, which i think it is
I actually haven’t found large square-footage ones. I’ve always had to combine.
yea binky bunny, thats what they were talking about. i left that out. silly me
no xliddobunnyx, you’re not the silly one, I just realized I am.
I actually got so confused about whether we were talking about pens or cubes…and I mixed myself up. But actually regardless, whether x-pens or cubes, I’ve doubled and even combined.
