Hey Chicagoians…
Red Door is having another SPA DAY!!
July 21, 2007
Spa-Di-Dah Day
12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Your cats and rabbits want a summer spiff-up. Bring them to Red Door for nail clipping, brushing, ear cleaning, and 5 minute animal massages. Glamour portraits for pets, too. Treats for humans.
Red Door is located @ 2410 West Lunt Avenue, Chicago, IL 60645
It’s really fun- and they know what they’re doing. I plan on going, though I don’t know what time. It would be really nice for some of us binky bunny people to meet up- wendy hope to see you and finally meet pepper!
well, I’m pretty free all day – what time works for people?
andy and I are thinking of gettng there kind of early.. around 12 or 1.. how does that sound? we need to rent a zipcar to get over to the shelter.
Sounds good to me.
However there may be a complication. My best friend is in the hospital and has days, maybe hours left. I’ve known it was coming (cancer) but as late as Sunday we thought she’d have more time. I spent all day yesterday at her bedside and she knew I was there. Her husband and parents are with her now.
I want to go to go to Red Door – Bunny Therapy sounds about perfect right now. But it all depends on if she is still around by then – not sure if I’ll be needed at the hospital. If I don;t post by mid-morning, assume that I’ll be there and I’ll plan to arrive around 12:30.
Wendy, I’m sorry for what you all have had to go through! That’s very sad. I know how the suffering of a long-term illness can be so heartbreaking. I wish you all strength and serenity, and that your friend has a peaceful goodbye.
i’m so sorry wendy. I hope that everything works out for the best. I’ll email you with my cell number if you decide to call me if that will be easier for you.
it would be nice if more chicago people came
I’ll be there. Her husband basically ordered me to go. He reminded me that I need the break, and that she was a big supporter of various animal charities – so by going I’m fulfilling two needs.
I’ll plan to arrive around 12:30. I posted on the LJ group too but so far no one has said they could make it.
good- i’m glad. we’ll rent a zip car for 12. see you and pepper there!
Thank you. She died peacefully in her sleep sometime between 2 and 5 AM
Ah Wendyz, that just stinks. :-{
I hope you have fun at Red Door at least.
Had a great time at the SpaDiDah day. I got there about 12:15 and was already bunny #7. I sat on the floor and chatted with people while we were waiting. Got to pet big bunnies and little bunnies and rex bunnies and floofy bunnies.
Fujoebunnyhuman showed up about 10 minutes later and they were already at around #12. Poor Fujoe HATES cars, and peed himself on the trip. I got to meet Patina who is a round little darling. They are both sooooo small compared to my little tank-bunny. I recognized several of the buns who had been there on my previous visits and who now have people of their very own.
Pepper got grooming and a nail trim for $18 and I added 2 raffle tix to make it an even $20. While she was in the back getting work done, I watched the people getting glamor pics of their buns. They had a beach backdrop set up and some summer props. There was one black bun who was calm enough that they got a little red visor with sunglasses on her – soooooo cute. There were 3 buns who alternated between nibbling at the little paper umbrellas and humping each other. (No, we’re not getting THOSE kinds of pictures!). Fujoebunnyhuman had her camera and was taking pictuures of the people and bunnies – I hope she gets to post some.
I had a chance to chat with Toni the rabbit adoption lady and she says that they JUST got a bunch of boy-bunnies in, so we’re going to drop in on Wednesday to see if she likes any of them.
I left after about an hour – I’m still pretty tired, and I’m allergic to the cats that share the space with the bunnies, so I was getting kind of itchy. Pepper got lots of attention as she was calm enough to be pet and she was so different from most of the other buns there – though there was one boy that might have been her brother they looked so alike.
She’s still kind of mad at me for taking her back to THAT PLACE and getting her BRUSHED!!!!! How dare I! But she looks nice – they got the last of her big shed loose and she looks nice and sleek.
Me, I’m doing about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. I’m not OK, I’m not going to be OK for quite a while. But I have lots of friends for support, so I’m just haning in there trying to get caught up on some rest and starting planning for her memorial in October. She was only 48.
ok so here are some pictures of Red Door’s Spa-Di-Da-Day. I still haven’t figured out how to attach pictures on the body of the post.. Maybe it’s a mac thing- or maybe I have to dump my pictures into a flicker/photobucket type application which I don’t want to do. Oh well…
The first one is of my bunnies’ carrier with their sticky note. There were so many people there we had to wait.. #12-#13. Wendy was right, Fujoe got so freaked in the car that he peed himself. I felt so bad for him. All he does is shake and drool really badly, but this was the first accident. You can see the roll of paper towles next to the carrier which I had to ask the shelter for.
One of the shelter bunnies…
My first encounter with Pepper- Wendyski’s bunny. I was soo amazed how big her feet were!!! I’m so used to little tiny ones!
Bunny people chatting it up

And then.. I decided that Fujoe and Patina needed to have glamour shots- it’s all to a good cause! That and I think I have the prettiest bunny couple.. : )
1. The beach set… It was so adorable. Fujoe decided to back up into the backdrop and made it curve like that. I was thinking to myself that there was no way my two bunnies were going to sit still
2. I was attempting to pose my bunnies.. ehh.. I was laughing so hard. That’s me on the right hand side.
3. Fujoe wanted no part of this
4.Toni the Photographer. She was my bonding coach for Patina and Fujoe- she knew it was all going to work out. Yay Toni!
5. My bunnies were too small for the visor.
it made me sad- there are going to be a lot of really good pics with that one a rabbit!
6. This was amazing.. I can’t wait till I get the proofs.. I’ll make sure to post a good picture of them!

LOL!!!! I laughed so hard at all the ones where you and Tony are trying to get the scene setup. We humans are so goofy! I have a picture of Rucy and Forrest (since passed)
in a little Christmas sleigh. Can’t wait to see the beach pics!
Regarding uploading the pics the other way, yeah, for now you have to have a third party photo account. I am not fond of that either! Hopefully soon in the next update the provider of the text box will improve that!
I wanted to post red door’s blog:
http://behindthereddoor.blogspot.com/
if you scroll down to monday’s post, fujoe and patina are on it!! yay summer bunnies!
Your babies!

I love the "we are not amused" look on the grey one’s face.
Awwww – I’ll bet Fujoe is checking out the beach-bunnies and Patina is peeved about it!
AWE!!! Cute what an adorable picture. I love the whole pose! Adorable!
ya, i’ll post more once I get the cd. Patina looks like that in all of them.. it’s so odd. I wanted one “happy” one of her.. oh well
