The last couple of days Luey has been doing so much poop (outside his littertray).  I have reduced the pen area size hoping that he will get the message to use his tray more.  He was not too bad this morning, but still plenty of ‘pooties’ on the floor.  Think I will put another littertray in the pen.

I generally let him roam around in the loungeroom when I am cleaning his pen out (its much easier for me), however it is so hard to get him back in his pen after I have finished.  He is now starting to pee on the loungeroom carpet and poop everywhere so I tend to not let him out too long.  Trying to herd him back in is causing Luey to start biting and lunging at me.  He obviously likes being out and not in.

I have been using the feather duster to coercise him back to his littertray, but he is having none of the duster and circles and attacks it and picking him up is impossible.

I think I will have to put him in the middle pen which is next door to Sprinkles.  The issue I have there is that they attack each other through the pen bars and they spray at each other … generally I get some too or in the case the other day my pink furry slippers got a soaking!

I didn’t mind him being out in the loungeroom until he started peeing and pooping everywhere.

Uuuufffff sometimes it is just too hard!  LOL.

Bad Bunnies …. Yeah i know … I wonder if they make bunny nappies! A friend of mine on another Board put a nappy on her bunny as she had poopy sludgebutt … she sent in a video of it …gosh it was funny. Bunny didn’t mind at all and she had a show of her hubby putting on the nappy. What a laugh!

              Hi Dawn!

Are Luey and Sprinkles neutered? I am asking because usualy bunnies spraying is an un-neutered bunny activity, maybe you answered this on another post and I missed it…  Is it correct that Sprinkles is a male? If so, this may be the source of the poop problems, when I brought a new boy into my house (when I already had one boy) it triggered a big poop war!  Raymond has his own cage, and still marks here and there (especially after Kramer hopped into his cage and attacked him ).  This is also definitely why he is marking upthe loungeroom so much, because he wants to mark it as his territory.  I have not yet found a very successful way of stopping poop wars, maybe someone else has?

Sprinkles is a girl and is spayed … however, I have had enormous problems with her pee/poop over the last three years. Sprinkles has been with me for the complete time, with the exception of 7 months when she went to live elsewhere.

Luey is a male and neutured. He was rescued and I have had him for about 6 weeks. Luey was so good up until a few days ago … I could have him in the loungeroom with me, now I have banned him from the loungeroom and he stays in his pen until I can get him pooping/peeing in his tray again.

Sprinkles is not allowed anywhere except her pen. She is a messy bunny and will spray, pee and poop in every nook and cranny outside her area. Even having several littertrays around the loungeroom is of no help with her.

I can handle the poop war but the pee/spray is a NO NO with me!

Dawn, thanks for clearing that up – glad they’re both speutered.

Sprinkles and Luey aren’t bonded, right? Are you planning to try and bond them?

It sounds like they’re having a turf war and Luey sounds like he’s on protest. Have they been exposed to each other more or has anything changed? It sounds like he’s a real handful! If you do move them next to each other, I would strongly suggest putting at least cardboard between the two pens or something to separate them from biting at each other. Remember he’s the new guy and Sprinkles is trying to defend her turf from this intruder. My hope is with persistance and patience it will get better.

I do have sympathy for your woes – we have a bonded pair and a solo bun. Their houses are about 3 feet apart and I swear they save up all their poopies all day to go in those 3 feet. Even with TWO litterboxes in that small space, I still have to sweep poop daily and clean up the occasional pee.

                    Hey Dawn,

Well, now that Bailey and Rucy will never bond, I feel your misery to a point. Bailey is a big mess in her pen! And she really makes sure to mark where Rucy will be near. Maybe if she is able to bond with Luey, and IF she can be the dominant or settle into the passive, she will find a role she can feel secure in, and no longer feel the need to poop and pee/spray everywhere!

Do you know when she was spayed? Not that it makes a difference now, but I read that rabbits who are spayed/neutered early (right around their sexual maturity) that they will be less likely to spray or do other territorial markings. Rabbits that are spayed later in life, may still continue their habits because they are ingrained. (I have also seen rabbits who were spayed later decrease their bad habits….so who really knows) But I was just curious how old she was when she was spayed.

Do you have pictures of your bunnies?

At the moment, I have no intentions of bonding them … too many other issues to deal with I am afraid. However, having said that I did have them together for about 5 minutes the other night … of course I was the piggy in the middle. Miss Sprinkles was being very dominant and trying to hump Luey and at the same time keeping Luey away from me. She is very possessive. I think Luey was a bit overwhelmed by it all so did not keep them together for long. After that little episode, Luey was constantly thumping … oh gosh he did have that evil look in his eye … kinda worried me a bit!

I guess Sprinkles is about 4 now … she may have been about 12 months when I inherited her and I had her spayed pretty much soon after I got her. But her habits did not change much after her op, but needless to say I hear what you are saying. Just one of those things I suppose.

Unfortunately, I cannot post pictures of my buns … I do not have access to download pics on my work pc and I don’t have a computer at home any more (the other one died last year). I know some time ago I posted some pics to Brenda and she put them up on the IVillage bunny board. I tried to find them the other day, but my pc kept crashing LOL. I might go and have another look. They were ones of both Sprinkles and Lily.

                        Dawn,

Ohhhh. regarding the pictures. I think I know where they are. That’s if ivillage kept the same site that I started for member pictures back then. If I can remember right, I gave Brenda and/or Flossy the info. I’ll check the site and see if it’s up there. Otherwise, Flossy might be able to help ya.

And regarding Sprinkles: Well it looks like the name you gave her will just always fit. Maybe as she gets older, she’ll settle down with her pooppeefest. I know you have tried everything over the years. (for anyone reading this, I know Dawn from the ivillage board I co-leaded for years, so she has been through it all) Doesn’t mean that if something new pops up for stubborn poopers that I won’t offer it to ya.
