I just got a bunny last week.. I have never owned a bunny and I dont know anyone who has either so I am a lil lost on what to do with it. For starters.. the guy at the pet store told me that if I feed him/her (Still not sure yet) any veggies he will get really bad #^$@!s and die within 12 hours. Now all my life I thought bunnies ate veggies.. So that just confused the hell out of me. I have been feeding it like that pellet stuff you get at pet stores but I would really like to know what else I can feed him….

Bunnies can eat veggies, you just have to start out slowly and get them used to having veggies in their diet.  A great place to find out all about bunny care and diet is the House Rabbit Society website, http://www.rabbit.org .  A place to look for diet information is http://www.rabbit.org/care/index.html (scroll down to the diet information).  This gives information about hay, pellets and veggies in your rabbit’s diet.

              welcome playboibunnie147!

Osprey’s advice is right on, I visit rabbit.org often, it’s the most comprehensive site.

It’s fairly common for pet store employees to give out incorrect information about bunny care. For example most pet stores sell pine litter, which is dangerous for bunnies. It’s definitely worth reading up on the rabbit info section of binky bunny and rabbit.org, since there’s so much helpful info. Two books I’d recommend are The House Rabbit Handbook and Rabbits for Dummies.

And of course we are here to help you too!

Hi! Usually the most suprising thng to people is how much HAY bunnies eat, so don’t forget that part!  Also, since your bunny is young, alfalfa NOW is good, but once he hits 6 months, it is not healthy for him   good luck & have fun!

                  Hello,
Thanks guy.. Tons of help. I have been so lost.. And thanks about the litter info too.. I accually use pine litter for him/her. Now that you told me that I will def have to go to the store in the morning and get something different. Also I just got those alfalfa block thingys and some hay.. He/she eats it alot.

                    Welcome playboibunnie147!!

You’ve gotten some great links.  I also am a fan of rabbit.org for information.   Rabbits definitely need greens, but you need to wait until they are about 12 weeks old to slowly introduce veggies.

And though pine shavings are not safe, dried pine pellets are okay because the dangerous oils are dried out.  So for example woodstove pellets, and feline pine are examples of safe litter made from pine.
