I’m trying to figure out how to make a giant bunny condo. Does anybody have any ideas or advice on how to do so? thanks!
here are some good websites:

I made one for Medusa, but disassembled it after a week because I just decided to let her free roam my room and the condo took up alot of space. It’s also harder to clean the carpet inside because you have to take it out and vacuum it. However, for those rabbits that need to be contained, I would say the condo is a much better option than a cage. It may offer the same room as a pen or more if there are different levels they can hop too.
I second poopy’s recommendation of making an NIC cottage – my kids love theirs! It takes up much less space than most cages – and since it’s multi-level – they have more space. I used coroplast for the floors – which makes for really easy clean up too.
You may use wire-mesh! But not the sharp-edged kind! It is very cheap and you can make it as big as you want! And as botton you may use a large piece of aluminum, cliped on the rest of the cage with clips for electrical cords, lined maybe with a blanket, to kane it softer on the bunnies’ feet, and an top of the blanket you may lay some plastic tablecloth! But make sure that the bunny does not chew on it and that it doesn’t cause any allergic reactions! And make the opening on the front, so that the bunny can get in and out easily and wide enough so that you can clean the daily mess with maybe a hand-vac!
Here are some more links – some actually have step by step instructions-

I bought 2 Marshall play pens off ebay and connected them to enclose the habitat. Her 2 story house is in there and I bought some outdoor carpeting to carpet the inside of the habitat. I call it “Sophie World”- kinda like disney world for bunnies. LOL. She loves it!!!! I’m telling you, those two playpens for about $90 made such a difference in our world, and you can move it outside in the summer when you take the baby to camp to visit her grandparents. it so cute how my mom calls Sophie her “grand bunny”.
sounds like Sophie has quite a palace! my parents call our kids the grandbunnies too and even on occassion leave phone messages for them 🙂
I wish my family was like that! My folks hate bunnies because they say they smell! And although i have proven to them that this is not so, they do not care a bit about Aftias! Too bad!
My mom was definitely anti-the bunny in the very very beginning since I have had a lung disease snice I was born, along with asthma and really bad allergies. I am allergice to every animal but rabbits if you can believe it! I’ve had Soph since was 3 weeks old because she was the runt of a friend’s litter and since the first time Sophie climbed up my mom’s chest and fell asleep on her shoulder (when she weighed all of one pound) my mom has been in love. I even get Mother’s Day gift baskets and christmas presents for the baby! I work about 70 hours a week between the two jobs and my parents know how much I love her and how much she makes me happy- that makes them happy. Even the drama kids at teh Stage love Sophie. She has a small cage set up in my office there, since I am there so much, and they will all happen to “stop by” to check their schedule in my office when she is visiting. She’s a princess!
Those Marshall playpens are amazing. I can take it down quick if I need to, but for the most part her habitat is up. I will take pics later this week to show you…I have to wait till I get around to cleaning my house!
My mom doesn’t like the idea of having a rabbit as a pet.. though she has yet to meet Fujoe. She has told me it’s not right to keep an animal as a pet that you eat. I keep telling her I won’t eat rabbit anymore, but she’ll say that I used to so it’s the same..
I mean, it kind of makes sense in her situation. She (and my father) come from a rual part of Sicily (Italy) where they worked on a farm. My mother had the job of killing the rabbits that her father raised. So now, she won’t eat rabbit anymor because she feels bad..
that was a random tangent.
it seems like bunnies as pets have become more common – but it sounds like not everybody appreciates how wonderful they are. we had a bunny in the house pretty much from when I was 5 and on. i remember how surprised people were years ago that we had a house rabbit. most of them had no idea what to expect and were amazed at how interactive bunnies are.
It does make sense what you’re saying about your mom, Fujoe – I guess it’s just a world view so different from our own, ya know? My mom grew up living above her dad’s grocery & fish store. She used to think all the fish were her pets and would get really upset when anybody bought one 🙁 One time she took a carp into the bathtub with her. It didn’t go very well for the carp, I’m afraid.
KOKKINIKLOSTI – your family has no idea what they’re missing since Aftias is a sweetie!
I really don’t care about what they think any more! But i really don’t want to be thinking about what they are goiong to say as soon as i get my7 second rabbit (that is going to happen really soon!)
My folks grew up in a different time regarding what rabbits were mainly used for. Won’t go into detail. But they are very understanding and extremely respectful. I know depending on what part the of the world, and even within what part of the U.S. we live in, having a house rabbit can really be viewed as absurd.

That’s why the most common bunny-related jike of my family is if Aftias is going to be big enough for Easter dinner! thankfully this is just a joke and i view it as nothing more than that!

that’s why I get the "oh, she almost big enoug for the stew pot" jokes… but my family loves her. they do, it just took some time for them to realize she’s a companion pet, just like a dog or cat.
My folks are against having any kind of pet! They do not like the fact that i keep a rabbit and 3 hamsters IN the house, but they have compromised with the idea!
