that’s just a few things I found quickly googling the issue- I’m sure others on this site can give their input.

FuJoe is right, wire floors are bad, but if the wire grate or screen is for JUST for the litterbox then it should be okay.   Unless your bunny likes to hang out most of the time in it or you have a rex.   Depends on the how tighly woven the grate is – Rexes don’t have thick fur on their feet.

Actually  I have used grates made for litterboxes for years, well the ones we use are actually more like litter screens.(more tightly woven)     It keeps their feet dry and clean-  but the screens allow only pee to go through. I like this better though because it makes cleaning the litterbox easy.  This actually has saved me litter too.   It lasts about twice as long because the poops are separated and easy to toss out, and whever they pee, the pee stays in just the area they peed in, and I can easily scoop it up, and the rest of the litter is clean as a whistle, so I just have to add a bit more.    The only thing with this is you need to dump their poo every single day – which is very easy, because you just lift out the screen and dump it.

Hey Binky, that’s the same way I do Sable’s but just happened on it by chance.  When I wasn’t able to break him of using what was supposed to be a nest box as his litter box in his cage, I started putting the paper pellet litter under the grated floor and carefresh bedding over top. 

Are you going to be marketing a version of the mesh for triangular litter boxes too?  That’s what I need for the box Sable uses when he’s out and about.

this might be an odd question… but do your bunnies pee in different areas of the litter box? fujoe only goes in the two corners and that’s it.. so it’s really easy to scoop everything out.. is that odd?

Sable always pees in the same spots.  One corner in his cage box which is rectangular and to the back corner of his playpen box which is triangular.  You’re right, it does make for easy cleanup, too bad the clumping litter can’t be used it would be super easy!

I love the new pic of Sable!!! Looks like it is baby’s firt day home from the hospital. LOL.

If i may just throw in my two cents about this topic:
About 4 or 5 months ago, my adult rabbit (still under a year but spayed) Pippin was digging the litter out of her box ALL THE TIME and it was really gross and smelled really bad. I got the idea from another site about making a grate for her box so that she would not dig anymore. It worked so GREAT and still works so well that i’m sharing with everyone about it.

I went to a hardware store and got a sheet of white plastic grated light covering which actually is made to go over flourecsent lights on the ceiling. The grating holes are big enough for poopies to go through. It cost about 5 bucks. I took it home, made a template of the litter box on the grating and cut it out (careful with this because cutting this stuff is a bit dangerous, i would wear safety goggles), put the litter in and scince i have a triangle box, used three golf balls to support the grate in the corners. This works like a charm!!
Very clean too. All i have to do is remove the balls and grate, dump the box and wipe everything out with a baby wipe. Its easy and is a good solution to any digging bunnies out there. Or for whatever other reason you may need a grate on the litter box. I don’t have pics but i tried to explain it pretty good.

Thanks!  That’s him on manicure day .. I wrap him in a tea towel and put him in a trance while I do his nails.  My husband couldn’t believe it the first time he saw me do that, until I got the hang of it nail clipping involved dh holding Sable while I tried to grab his squirming toes and handle the clippers at the same time.

Sounds like a grate (nice pun eh?) idea!!
