Two days ago my father in law saw a mommy bunny get hit by a car while crossing the road with her 5babies. Her one baby stayed beside his mommy and my father in law brought him to our house. Now this is my first ever bunny. Im not sure how old she is but she is small…according to all the pictures ive looked at I’d say she is around 22-28days old. We have a vet appointment for next wednesday, but untill then what should I be feeding her? I have the pellets…but I am confused as to which hay to feed her. She is quite calm and loves to be cuddled…she is kind of nervous when i let her out to play, and im not too sure what kind of things she should be doing…id love some help ( i have enclosed a pic)
        thank you

Oh my, what a tragic story. It is so strange to hear that the babies were following the mother. Usually the mother keeps them hidden somewhere, unless something disturbed their nest. What happened to the other babies?  If they ran away, you should let animal care and control know.

The vet should have at least offered you some advice until you could see him/her. And I’m surprised they didn’t try to get you in sooner.

I can offer you what the House Rabbit Society suggests:  House Rabbit Society – Orphaned bunnies
Be sure to scroll for the suggested feedings for your bunny’s age.

It is very nice of you to care for this bunny.  I so hope this bunny survives and there is a happy ending. Please keep us updated.

wow I am so glad that your father in law rescued her, since she clearly is a domestic and not a wild rabbit.

I’d also recommend the house rabbit site for info too. Does she seem to be eating the pellets? If she seems to be eating ok, it’s possible that she’s a bit older. If she’s not eating well – you’ll want to follow the HRS orphaned bunnies suggestions to feed her.

Basically once she’s weened she should be on alfalfa based pellets and hay since she’s still growing. At around 7 or 8 months (or up to a year) is when you’ll want to transition her to timothy based pellets and grass hays.

Thank you all for your help…..well she is growing like a weed!!!! she loves her pellets and I feed her lettuce and alfalfa hay and I treat her with apple and peaches sometimes. She is doing well and loves to play with my 3yr old daughter..snowwhite, as my daughter called her chases my daughter down the hallway and then back again..they do that everyday for almost 1/2hr. It is so funny to watch. We dont let her run around the house, instead during the day we put a baby gate up in our hallway..which is really big and let her run and play there….she loves it.

I think she will be fine. We are off to the vets now

              thank you all.

Let us know what the vet says!  How old does the vet estimate s/he is?
