my buns have been with me for about 2 full weeks now and are sorta warming up to me but they are still a little scared. when i try to pick them up because their cage is on a table (came home one day and dad put it on the table for some reason, not sure why but wont let me put it down. working on getting him to let me put it on the floor and upgrading their space) . in addition to that, they seem not to like boxes and stuff but they do enjoy hiding under and behind the futon which makes it hard to put them back.

any tips? i dont want my buns to hate me.



oh yea, to add, one of my buns for some reason is getting worse because now she has started to ump out of my hands which makes me feel worse and not ever want to pick her up, but she has to get sone exercise because she is getting a little thick (never see her eat often though, maybe because when i look at her she stops)

it does take some time to earn a bunny's trust. we're so huge in comparison to them, so it can help to be on their level.
I've had good luck with laying on the floor and ignoring a bunny while i read or watch tv. by ignoring the bunnies they're very likely to get very curious and come over to check you out. i will do this every day and it can really help, but you'll have to resist the urge to pet the bunnies for the first few days. treats can also help during the process.

Is your dad worried the cage will damage the carpet? those clear office desk mats, they're great to put under pens and protect the carpet. most office supply stores sell them for under $20

also, looking at your avatar - if the floor of their house is wire, make sure to cover it with newspaper or blankies / towels since bunnies can get sore hocks from wire floors.

yea, it is wire. however, they like to use their cage as a litter box and i am in the process of building them a bunny condo. that and they tend to like to pee and poo in their cage anywhere regardless if it has a towel over the wire or not. however when i take them out of their cage they dont really poo and pee everywhere.

in addition to that their liter box has a little wire thing that lets the pee and poo drop to the botom so it doesnt get on their bottom and they seem to like that one more than the ones without it (i have both). i think its because it keeps it off their bottom so they dont have to clean it. my parents like it also because when i take them out they dont dirty the house.

as for the cage being on the table, my dad says its because he wants to beable to smell when the cage is smelly so he can empty their litter box (it is right next to the sofa) but then he doesnt really do it (nor do i want him to. because they are MY buns). so i am basically going to build a nice condo i have this mat like the clear office ones but you can cut it to whatever size u want it to be. i am going to use that for the floor and connect it to their cage that they are using as a little box right now so they can still use it as a little box. hopefully they will like it. and hopefully it will look nice so my parents and aunt doesnt say anything. =)

My carrera hates to be picked up. When i got her fixed i was trying to wrestle her into her carrier and she flew out of my arms and smacked the wood floor hard. She was bleeding and i was so scared that i hurt her bad. I held pressure and it stopped but i still got so worried and of course felt stupid going into the vets off and telling him i dropped her.  She ended up just breaking her nail but you run a risk of breaking something when they jump.

So, now i never pick her up unless i have a blanket around her to keep her from wiggling loose. And, if i know she is gonna get loose i get close to the floor so her jump isnt so far down.

yea, thats what i do now. however, with this new condo i hope ill near really have to pick them up often unless i need to do something with them. =)

Bunnies are scared of heights and once your bun realizes you arent going to continue to pick her up it will help your bun settle down much better.  Your bun may be afraid everytime you come near they will be picked up.
