I know we have members from all over the world, so what’s the weather like in your area?   And what do you do to keep your bunny’s temperature just right?

Right now it’s 66 degrees (F) – 3.47pm.    I know here in San Francisco, weather is usually no higher than the mid 70’s during the day in the summer.    Of course, the heater is turned on when it gets really chilly in the winter, and if it ever gets above the 80’s(F) then I use the tips that HoppyBunny posted in the previous post.

I’m in southern Ontario, Canada.  It’s hot and humid here in the summer though this week is up and down between 75 and 86F plus humidex.

Our bun doesn’t have to worry about keeping cool, we have central air and our house doesn’t get warmer than about 74F.  One end of his pen is near a vent so he can lay there if he wants to be really cool.

I grew up in Alaska, and I do know that was COLD in winter.   England is pretty far up there too, do you also get the light extremes?

So what’s the weather like right now there in North East England?

Hi Loopylop!  Actually I have been to the north east of England, but that was a long time ago (25 yrs to be exact) and I was only passing through.  How is the weather there this year?

I have a sister who lives in London now.  When I visited her in September a few years ago it was pretty hot, but I know that was unusual.

Hi all im from central scotland and usually the weather is pretty mild between 11 degrees C and 14 so its pretty comfortable. Just now we are experiencing a freak heat wave the hottest its been is 27 degrees C thats pretty hot for us scots, To keep my rabbit cool i baught him a little fan that blows on him but moves so it doesnt chill him. I have also put ice cubes in his drinking bowl and being a geologist i had a granite slab handy which he loves to lie on he also likes having his ears misted (my grandad recommended this). Unfortunately he has breathing problems so cant go outside .

Welcome tallullu!! Now you’re entered into the drawing for the bunny goodies!

The granite slab is a wonderful tool to keep bunnies cool.  We use large ceramic tiles purchased from a hardware store/home building store.   My bunny Jack loves to hang out on them.

i’m in london (engerland). today it is 33 degrees centigrade (91.4F) and tomorrow it will be 35 degrees centigrade (95F).

aircon is broken in our office. i’m dying. that with the pollution, is, quite frankly, killing me.

the bunny has a wet towel, but no fan on. i need to get a big fan but he actually seems ok lying on the correx and chilling out there. my flat doesn’t get crazy hot luckily, warm, but never like it is outside, or in our office right now!

                      i’m meltingggggg.

going to try the tile idea though as have loads doing nothing in my cupboard.

Egads! That sounds absolutely miserable. I am too spoiled with good weather most of time here in San Francisco.  But on a rare occasion, heat will settle in.   I am not good with heat. I get grumpy and irritable and sticky and AH, just thinking about it makes me miserable, so I’ll try and send some San Francisco fog your way.

Hopefully your office will soon get the air fixed.  Who can work in that?!!

actually i shouldnt grumble about the weather here this week, it’s very hot! like sazemoo says, we appear to be experiencing a heat wave in England- not so unusual for London but I’m up near Newcastle upon Tyne- i’m on the coast so often we miss out on the good fortune in terms of weather.

My yard only has the sun from around 11.30 – 3.30 then it pops behind next door’s extension! i placed Lollo’s hutch against the wall that doesn’t get direct sunlight so he always has some shade (i did put a large tile upstairs in the hutch but he tried to eat it! ) and when he’s out and about in the back yard he likes to lounge in the shade under the table or behind my dustbin, just chilling!

i’m going to try a bowl with the ice cubes in like tallullu mentioned though because i do think he could be drinking more than he does….

My job in the Navy is to do the weather. I mostly give pilots weather briefs for pilots. currently it is 87 F or 30.6 C. and it is 1611 US Central time or 2011 Zulu time. We had a severe t storm 2 days ago and all of our power was knocked out in and we were experiencing a heat wave I tried to keep Kupo nice and cool but with no A/C going it was a challenge.

Wow, interesting career. I then wanted to check out your profile, which then led me to your blog, and the thing I was mostly amazed at – even more so than the exciting career, all the animals, identical music likes – but I thought I was the ONLY one who would ever listen to Def Leppard’s greatest hits.  I was like, SEE, I am not the world’s most whacky oddity!  There are others!

Here’s some bunny cooling tips – since lops have a difficult time keeping cool because their ears aren’t upright, you can dampen them, and put a bottle of frozen water in Kupo’s cage.  You might already do that, but if you need any additional tips – here are some more

most people in the uk don’t have aircon in our homes we’re like from medieval times over here, or the stone age. that’s probably why they built stonehenge, i reckon it’s an old fashioned airconditioning unit, and if you sit just so, the sun never reaches you and you have a completely cool spot!

hm. my mind does wonder sometimes, it really does. still, i think i’ll have to get airconditioning soon. it won’t be long before we all have units hanging out of our windows as well. but then, how do you open you’re window to listen to the rain, or nose at the neighbours?! and it makes soooo much noise!

                                it’s a toughie!

I reckon your right about the stone henge thing!!  Its a bit crazy all this hot weather we’re getting in the uk at the mo…i’m not complaining tho i think its great, its just that we’re not prepared for it so we all walk around red in the face and wilting!!!

I’ve been ‘misting’ my girls with water these last few weeks and have discovered that its great for me too, i just mist in front of the fan just before it turns on me and then it blows it on me and cools me down a treat!! I may try filling a big bottle, freezing it and then laying down next to it soon……now where can i get a extra large bottle…

just use a big evian one! hehehe. certainly it would make your head cooler laying it on there!

dougal was chasing an ice cube round the floor yesterday so he seems to like just licking and nibbling on normal boring water cubes!

We don’t have aircon in our place either because the weather here right in the city hardly ever goes above 75.   But when it does, I have a tip;    It may look ridiculous, but it works for me.  I take a zip-lock bag, fill it with ice, wrap paper towels around it and stuff it down my shirt.  It’s amazing how it cools off everything, and I get a Dolly Parton figure to’boot! (but you have to be sure to wrap something around it otherwise you’ll jump through the roof.)

Well this summer is really hot it is like in the 80’s and 90’s most of the time it is in the 80’s but it is still to hot to take Orange Juice out.
I have been taking her out in my room for an extra long time. When I get more bunnies I want to let them have the run of the house but I only have 1 so I have a room that she sleeps in I also have stairs that im scared she could get hurt on. I like your idea about the ice in a bag and stuff it in your shirt.

somehow it’s hot here in the US too. I’m in Chicago, and we’ve had record heat. Thank goodness that I have an airconditioner. The frist heat wave we had, I didn’t and poor fujoe got really dehydrated. I did the whole freeze the water bottle thing, but he was miserable. Now I almost always have it on- for him of couse. He doesn’t have to leave the apartment, I do. I myself became very dehydrated today- I’m just getting over it. . . It was so bad today, and now it’s raining. . stupid chicago.

Fujoethebunny – A week or so ago, I was about an hour East of San Francisco, and it was near 110. I have never felt so hot!   A few hours later, I began to feel nauseous.  I ended up getting cooled down and hydrated, but I have never had heat stroke before or gotten that dehydrated,  I think I was getting close because even though I got out of the heat, and drank tons of fluids the nauseousness was with me until the evening.
