Poor Jenny is having a bout of stasis, please send healing vibes.
I’ve given gas drops and a tum massage, then picked some very wet dandelion leaves. She went to wolf them down, but only managed a couple of leaves before she gave up. Same with some carrot. Now trying porridge oats then I’ll give more drops and another tum massage.
This has come out of the blue, maybe the ground outside was too cold and damp yesterday?
Poor darling… ((((((happy tummy))))))
How is the cold damp ground relevant? I feel like I’m missing something…
((((((Jenny))))))
How’s the poop and pee?
Q8, Jenny gets outside time every day
That she went to wolf down the dandelion but didn’t manage makes one think of a dental issue. If she did want the dandelion she’s probably hungry. Maybe some CC could help? How does her tummy feel?
poops are tiny, tummy is big n quite solid, she did eat a bit of carrot and she ate a barley ring last night so doubt it’s dental.
off to give second lot of gas drops n massage
{{{Jenny}}}
Do you have any dill or carrot tops?
Any meloxicam at home?
no, but there’s a little parsley left, I’ll try that. She’s just left a bunch of tiny uneaten cecal grapes
I have still got Rusty’s meloxicam…
Try to make her move around some. I know you know what to do, of course. Here’s my favorite article, the one I always link to:
http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/ileus.html
update, she’s outside her cage and winding Gina up, so fingers crossed (I left her free to take floor time as movement is good) off to pick parsley now
edited to add – we posted at same time, bam. Yes movement is a big help for stasis, poor Jenny got left at the top of the stairs after her first massage, to encourage her to run down, which she did, and foot flicked me when she reached the bottom!
Really good if she is moving about.
Hopefully all the things you are doing will turn her around.
Meloxicam may be useful if those things haven’t worked. Just a single dose, provided she is not hypothermic.
She’s gone back and is lying in her hay box. A bit more carrot had gone when I got in from the garden. So far, she has ignored the parsley, but the rest of the dandelions have all but gone. Over half of last nights pellets are still uneaten, which isn’t like Jenny.
{{{Jenny}}} Glad to read she is trying at least something.
She’s sat up n had a wash and nibbled a strand of hay. Every bit helps keep the tum moving , so even one strand is good?
For sure!
Any bit of anything is great
Every little bit in the tum is great! Keep her fluffy butt moving if you can, and don’t be shy with the simethicone. I know sugar can add to gas or ache, but with Chewie I find that fussy tummy gets better if I give him mushed banana (which is very lubricating) mixed with a bit of yogurt and simethicone.
No yummy dandelion leaves tempting her GJ? Rose petals? Willow branches?
If you don’t have any, what about the dried stuff in those Ikea bags I tried Zou with some yesterday (just to see if she appreciated them, and boy she jumped on it !!)
How is she doing now?
Still not herself, but better than earlier. Shes moving around between hay boxes every so often and intermittently nibbling on the odd strand of hay.
Washing is usually a good sign!
(((((Jenny))))))
*@bam – I’ve just read the article! It’s brilliant! Thanks. Very informative & clear.
“nobody likes being forced to eat somebody else’s poop’ LOL
It should be given to every bunny owner when they get their bun!
Shes continued nibbling on hay every so often, and some dried grass. Going to give a third dose of drops and massage now, then leave her with some more oats and dried stuff from the garden to nibble at through the night, hopefully.
I hope she continues to improve on her eating, even nibbling is good because it means she’s not in so much pain. Healing vibes coming your way.
Dear Jenny, eat!
Vienna, that IS a great article!
In “come on Eileen” singing everybody
Come on Jenny
Pleeease nibble Jenny
Oh Jenny, cooome on !
Come oooon and faaaart !.
Jenny is much the same today… takes a few mouthfuls then stops eating, but she is eating a bit more than yesterday, maybe 5-6 bites instead of 2-3. I’ve just given more drops and another tum massage, which was followed by loud gurgling noises I could hear across the room.
She did briefly play with the fresh hay, which is hopefully promising
you can see her tiny little poops the old training pad was thoroughly wet though, so she is peeing fine.
She’s slow to eat the fresh grass, though I think all the dandelion leaves are gone, and she ate a slice of carrot straight down
So go for what she’s wolfing down
Are you lifting her backside up when massaging so gas rises to the ‘exit here’ sign….?
I must admit I was holding a friend’s baby the other day who had a onset of gas (the baby, not the friend ) and I sooooo wanted to hold him upside down to see if it worked with humans…!!! I laughed thinking of telling you lot this (but I forgot!)…
yep, bum held high, followed by a whole series of high back leg flicks after
Oh bless. Come on Jenny. I must get some simethicone…. wonder what is called over here. Fart juice probaby? I always come out with some weird translations that make me understood. Atleast I can speak the weird translations rather than act them out
Its always good to have simethicone in, bunnies always need it either at the weekend, late at night, or when its chucking down rain, or all three at once if they can!
Agreed. My house is never without. It’s just the ticket in case Chewie nicks a taco.
OK so there are 3 at pharmacy, none of which are simple simethicone :
“Carbosylane” : Active carbon and Simethicone
“Meteoxane” : Simethicone and Phlorogucino
“MeteoSpasmyl” : Citrate d’alverine & Simethicone.
Vienna, buy Infacol next time you’re in the UK instead.
Simpler!
From what I understand, active carbon is great. But is it an emulsion?
GJ, its hard to tell from the photo and because she has such a pointy face, is her face looking symmetrical? It almost looks like the right side is pulled up (like my Gooseman has) but it could just be angle of the photo. More {{{vibes}}} for little Jenny!
G.J: Agree with Jersey, her face is looking really weird on the pic, I hope it’s just the pic. If it isn’t, I’d suspect a bunny stroke (e cuniculi or an ear infection).
I’m glad she’s eating a bit more. If there’s no blockage you can give ranitidine (zantac), but I know you know that too.
Q8, Vienna: Activated charcoal is only good for binding poisons/toxins. It has a constipating effect, so I’d only give it to a bun if I suspected poisoning.
No worries re the head, its fine, she was in the act of tossing hay to the side.
More tiny poops tonight than yesterday, plus some uneaten cecals. If she’s no better in the morning, I’ll ring her vet.
After more drops, more massage, and an awful stench, she has eaten some hay, run around, and is lying more comfortably…
Yee ha !! Go Jenny girl, Go !!
That ‘nasty stench’ was inside, no wonder she was poorly !!
Was it Infacol? Do you mix the drops with anything or directly plop them in zee mouth?
She certainly looks more comfy there.
Topping up the {{{vibes}}} for Jenny.
She certainly looks more at ease. Continued (((vibes)))
Newsflash
Jenny has just galloped up and down the stairs, run round the living room, done a small binky, and torn back up the stairs.
She looks like she’s starting a megamolt, so maybe that’s why she’s been how she has?
Gallop Jenny!! Go Gallop to your little hearts content. Well done GJ for the Florence Nightingale efforts….!!!! It’s thanks to you or the result may have been much worse.
Congrats! That’s wonderful news, she is obviously starting to feel better I hope she’s wolfing down the food now.

She’s not eating properly yet, still nibbling, but for a bit longer, and mainly on hay. Hay is the best by far to get her tum back on track, so I’ll give her a break from the dreaded drops and massage if she keeps on nibbling. She’s left a couple of slightly bigger poops, so hopefully they’ll soon be normal Jenny-size and more of them.
Great news! The start of a mega-molt might very well be the cause. They often get grumpy too, but since healthy Jenny is a bit of a Caerbannog rabbit, maybe it’s difficult to tell with her.
Eat now, little girl
Glad to read the update!

That actually crossed my mind today. A regular member years ago used to say her bunny had PMS (Pre Moult Syndrome). I swear sometimes there is such a thing.
Jenny was foul last week, trying to bite me when I went to take her outside, and chasing Pippi so much I had to take him away from her as it looked like it could escalate into a full blown fight. He has refused to go back near her since. She’s still not eating normally. I bought some Cavolo Nevo as a treat, she ate that, but she was leaving uneaten cecals yesterday, so I am wary about giving too much green stuff today? I don’t want to add the stress of a vets visit as long as she is still eating something and active, but will need to if she doesn’t pick up the food intake soon.
Uneaten cecals isn’t a huge problem, the main thing is of course that she eats something. My Bam’s sensitive tummy does well on black kale, but all buns are of course different.
Could it be something else underlying if she was being ‘aggressive’ since last week….? Just saying…
Could be PMS of course (and as Rose in The Golden Girls said famously in her wistfully dozy fashion ‘Hmmm’, she said thoughtfully, ‘I never had PMS but I did have a BMW once”
Hopefully it is pms. She’s pooped a decent number of sub-size poops, and has eaten some dried grass and more hay. She is close to her normal activity levels, but I’ll keep a close eye, any change for the worse and she’ll be at the vets before she can argue!
Poor bug… Hope she perks up (or blows out soon so she can feel better). *gentle squeeze and noserubs*
Poops are getting bigger nearly normal Jenny size. Shes eating hay n greens but still not eating many pellets?
if she eats enough of the hay she’ll be fine without pellets for quite some time (months). Has she lost weight?
Glad to hear poop is bigger
Not weighed her but planning to try Pets At Home this afternoon and see if they have the Natures Touch mix she and Gina had post-spay last year. She loved it then, so worth trying! Let’s just hope they don’t have any more rabbits needing adopting (Minstrel and Snickers came from there) as six is really enough
LOL Gina !!! You know PAH shop lay-out, so just DON’T go down the ‘adoption’ aisle !!!! AVOID IT !
If you do, you’re asking for trouble !!
Still… we’d better start picking out names. Just in case.
My youngest said I should have named Mini and Snickers after him and his brother, as I am compensating for them leaving home!!!!
G.J, that could have made for the most wonderful misunderstandings and mix-ups =)
Vienna, an adoption-aisle! I could never go to PAH-shop. I’d come home with a fluffle. Every time!
Home with no food or new bun. Even if I could afford another bun or three, I don’t think the stress of a new bun in the house would be fair on jenny right now. When she was narky last week, I thought it could be in response to picking up on my stress, getting everything in place for my eldest to leave. My youngest is more straightforward, as he doesn’t have disabilities that new support at uni.
PAH no longer sdtock the stuff I wanted, the said they could order it in for collection in 3 working days…. not much help tonight.
Thankfully though, when I got home, Jenny’s uneaten breakfast pellets had gone, so gave her some more and she started to eat some.
I’m sorry they didn’t have her nomnommy mix, those mixes seem be a favorite with picky bunnies. But yay! for her eating her breakfast-pellets!
All her supper pellets were gone this morning, and she left all these in the bottom of the hay box/litter tray
And she was straight into munching the fresh hay too
Good job, girly girl! That’s a beautiful harvest.
P.S. Your tiles are identical to the ones my parents have in their kitchen.
Yay, Jenny!!! Good girl!!

** cough cogh * erm, hellooo, I do believe I said that just after you annonced the ‘surprise’ arrival of the extra fluffs!….
Yup. You did. Which is weird, because you usually hold back
Two out left space for two in no arguing with the maths there lol

It’s important to maintain homeostasis!
!!! Good one!
Given I don’t know if the colder weather played a part in Jenny’s poorly tum, I only put them out for an hour this morning, as it is only 10C here, and I’m not taking chances, but at the same time, everybun likes their garden time.
While they were grazing, I cleaned the dining room aka bunny room out, and collected loads of clover, dandelion and grass.
Jenny was straight into the dandelions when she came in, Snickers was more like ‘hide me, Mini, and she won’t see me. If she don’t see me, she can’t bring me in!’
Naaaw, it’s just like my bridge dog, she was completely invisible when she stuck her head in under the bed.
So glad to hear Jenny is doing so much better!
My bridge cat used to ‘hide’ under a glass-topped coffee table !!
Gina – could you put a fleece out on the grass, so they have the choice of laying on something a little less ‘nippy’ should they wish ? I know you don’t want to tempt fate but maybe it was down to stress…. have the boys gone yet? maybe she was missing them?
Jenny had a fleecy blanket to sit/lie on outside, the rest have the hammocks in their runs, so everybun can get off the ground if they wish.
My eldest left a week ago, my youngest, this weekend. Getting my eldest sorted was quite stressful, the stress levels in the house are way lower this week. I think the moult was the main culprit. Shes fine today.
On a side note, Snickers let me rub her head today
Yay Snickers! (Don’t rub too much – she’ll melt ! )
Mini melts when you rub his head… down on the floor, and looks most put out when I dare to stop!
Pfff… chocolate bunnies…
Just an update to say Jenny is fully recovered. She is staying solo, as Pippi has made it clear he wants to be with Mini and Snickers, so Jenny is being left with free run of the house except during the other buns floor time, which she seems to approve (her having lots of floor time, not them having time that means she has to go in). She actually came to me and demanded a 5 second ear rub yesterday, and has just done so again as I type. She also let my youngest rub her ears yesterday. Maybe she’ll end up more happy around people than other buns?
That’s my Chewie to a tee. Here’s to her happiness! *clink*
That’s great that she’s made a full recovery A shame that Pippi didn’t want to be with her again but I suppose it’s probably all for the best since she seems happy by herself.
Funnily, she nearly always has somebunny along side her if she is in her cage, as Pippi, Mini and Snickers all seem to take turns to lie beside her, but none of them will go with her? Aren’t bunnies strange??
