I live in Buffalo and soon it is going to be very cold. Should I buy sweaters for my rabbits? Do rabbits even like wearing sweaters? If so, where would be the best place to get them. Thank you!

I dont think you have to buy them sweaters. Some like them and some done. My Mini Rex has one thin christmas sweater and one thin halloween shirt. He loves the shirt more than the sweater, but our Mini Dutch doesnt like the cold so the sweater is his now. He doesnt mind wearing it when its cold but doesnt too much care for it if its a decent temperature. He prefers to cuddle in his towel

Rabbits are very resistant to cold if it gradually gets colder. They grow thicker fur and might need a bit more food, but, with a few exceptions, buns don’t need clothes like f ex dogs sometimes do.

If your rabbits are housed outdoors they should have an insulated hutch elevated off of the ground, with bedding and shelter against rain and snow and wind and direct sunshine. If it is freezing cold you need to provide fresh water twice a day (because the water will freeze after a short while).
Down to like 14 degrees F (-10 C ) the buns should be fine provided the above precautions are taken -if they get the chance to gradually acclimatize to colder weather. We do recommend that rabbits are kept indoors though.

When our neighbors had our bunnies, we ended up buying a couple of cold-weather things to help them through the winter.

You can get a water bottle that plugs in. It has a thermostat and if it gets below freezing a small warmer kicks in to keep the water from freezing.

Similarly, we bought a couple of pet-safe heating pads to put in the hutch (that we also bought, so it would be wind-proof).

Is it any wonder WE ended up with these bunnies in our house instead?

If you have an indoor bunny and plan to take him outside for any reason (vet visit, move, or even just a walk) I would think a sweater of some kind would be nice in the winter. Many because indoor animals don’t tend to grow as much fur as they would if they were outdoors. That, and they are just plain adorable in them!

I’ve never tried, but I don’t think I’ll be wrong in guessing that rabbits don’t like wearing sweaters. As others have said, they won’t need them, but if you do decide to get some, make sure they only wear them when supervised. I could see a rabbit easily getting tangled up trying to escape it or chewing on the fabric to get free which can be dangerous if ingested.
