I rescued a female bunny 6 months ago and named her Hunter (I thought she was a boy my bad) She was raised mostly out of cage, I’ve always have rats, budgies, cats and guinea pigs but bunnies are really new to me so I had to learn on the fly. She always had creatures coming in and out of her cage, the cats would sleep in it and my rat Sura would always join her at dinner time. Also for the first two months of her life she lived on my couch and basically became another cat ahaha.
I just today rescued another bunny (very small and I’m pretty sure she’s super young), female I know for sure this time and super tiny. I had NO idea that you are not suppose to just put bunnies together and I really guess I should have looked it up but Hunter has never shown aggression towards another animal so I guess it slipped my mind.
Anyway, nothing happened, in fact Hunter seems to really enjoy her company. I introduced them and Hunter started rubbing all over her and licking her (I decided to stick with the more masculine names and named the new girl Ace). There was no rushing or pushing or biting. It was only after I put Ace down in her little nest on my bed for a nap that I thought maybe I should look up how I’m suppose to do this bonding thing?
I know things will probably be different once this baby reaches maturity, but I’m really not sure how to proceed. I let them out to run in the bathroom together just to see if it produced the same results (I had gloves on and a spray bottle in hand cause I was nervous) And Hunter actually started jumping in the air like she always does when she’s supper excited. She spent the whole time running around with Ace and trying to follow her (even though Hunter is much larger, it was funny).
So basically do I get them separate cages and wait to get them spayed before I really start to bond them? I wasn’t planning on putting Ace in the cage with her for the first few months because I really like to socialise all my animals so she’d would be with me all the time anyway. But now Hunter is digging a her cage and giving me sad eyes…
So is it possible to bond two unspayed female rabbits???
If anyone has advice, please feel free. Right now Ace is in her basket beside me on my bed because I wanted to hear from people who have owned rabbits longer than me before I start doing anything.
And please be kind, I’m not sure how weird it is to have your bunnies out around the house like I do… Hunter is as big as the cats and they really love each other so there’s never any problems. I rescue animals that have no where else to go so sometimes it takes me a while to learn about new species.
Thank you in advance~~
