Okay so I am sorry the title was so vague. I am currently at the shelter where I am a volunteer with the rabbits. We recently got one in she is a lionhead and about 4 lbs. I can feel her spin and she is developing a head tilt ( I am bugging them to get her to the because they keep putting her off and it could be serious). Okay so I have noticed she will not take treats, has not eaten pellets or hay. I am having someone bring me my med kit with some baby food. I’m going to give her some simethicone and a bene bac in her water as well as crushed pellets and baby food to try to tempt her anything else?

I think what you are planning on giving her is fine. Make sure she doesn’t get too cold. You can give her a very light tummy massage. It’s of course great if she could sit in your lap when you do that. Perhaps with a fleece blankie on her.
Thank you for doing this for her. She probably needs antibiotics for an ear-problem and she does need to see a vet soon, just as you want her to.

Want to hear the craziest thing ever? Our vets here at the shelter said they don’t specialize in rabbits since it was extra training. And they won’t take her somewhere else! CRAZY

Yes, they need to specialize in exotics to be bunny vets.

Head tilt is, as you probably know, due to either an ear-infection inside the ear-drum (typanic membrane) or to e cuniculi, a common parasite in buns.
An ear infection you treat with Baytril (enrofloxacine). A pain-killer can be needed. e cuniculi is treated with 28 consecutive days of a dewormer called Panacur (fenbendazole), sometimes plus Baytril. Metclopramide can be given against nausea (head tilt comes from the balance organs in the ear not being able to function properly due to an infection, a påarasite or an injury).

I hope you’ll be able to help this poor little rabbit. The most important thing now is to get some food into her and hopefully, she’ll poop. GI symptoms like inappetance is often a response to pain in rabbits.

I so sincerely hope she’ll get to see a vet soon. There’s not really anything you can do yourself except try to make her comfortable. I’m so sorry. I’m glad she has you. Maybe you can sit with her a little, let her feel your skin or your body-warmth against her. It could be comforting.

Update: we just left the vet and we ruled out ear infections. So the vet looked in her ear and her ear was so crusted with mites. She believes the head tilt and not eating has to do with irritation. Since mites can affect the jaw she thinks that it hurts her to much to eat she gave us a shot of ivermectin and we have two more treatments of that every 10 weeks

Yay! I hope it was just mites, Ivermectin is super-effective against ear-mites!
Thank you again for helping this little bunny!

I have never been to this vet before and I am in the search of a good one and even though she isn’t on a house rabbit list. Just by talking to her I just had a feeling that she knows her stuff. She explained everything with such confidence it was very comforting. She answered all my questions. I am going to another vet Monday. So I’m going to see who I like better to become my permanent vet.

Glad you met this vet! It’s so important to have a vet who listens and that you feel you can trust.
