Hi guys,
I’m currently bonding these two little beauties (So i don’t repeat myself, more info here: https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tab…fault.aspx)
http://s36.photobucket.com/user/axg…s.jpg.html” target=”_blank”>http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e…7fpobs.jpg” border=”0″ alt=” photo IMG_2409_zpsmy7fpobs.jpg”/>
I took Red to the vets last night and he noticed some sores in his ears which weren’t there last Thursday, Cinders has caused these being rough with her grooming, I know this because Gareth had the same.
Is there anyway I can stop her grooming inside his ears and giving him sores? I really hope there is a simple solution to this, poor little guy
Has no one had this with their bunnies?
Cinders & Red – The Bonding
It’s all gone very well so far. We went from the bathtub, to the bathroom floor, to the bedroom, then to the living room in a canvas run & now they are in their forever home in 13 days. So pleased with them both.
Day 8 – This was an accidental escape into the living room: They got on well so we left them out for half an hour
Day 12: The First Night together
I put the canvas run they had been in, up to the door of their new home so they could investigate in their own time.
https://youtu.be/SICyof_ygUs
04.54am – I got woken up by Red throwing his bell toy around
05.42am – Red decides to see how high the fencing is…
05.45am – Cinders wants to know what all the fuss is about
So proud of the little guys and the rabbit cam has been a godsend as I was able to leave their sight but still be able to see them whilst being close enough to break anything up should it kick off.
Little Red has always had a runny nose since I got him a few weeks ago, he has been on anti-biotics which don’t seem to have touched it, he’s currently on Metacam over the weekend, if that does nothing he is going in for an scan on Wednesday. Terrified for the little guy
Aww… That looks like the easy bond so many of us dream of…
I hope Red manages to shake that runny booplesnoot. Has his vet done a culture to see which antibiotic will kick butt best! If not, you might want to suggest it. (((Get all better, Red)))
That’s a lovely photostory of the bonding process – thanks for sharing
Sending (((vibes))) for snotty nose – I’m sure it will be fine.
*SMOOOOOOOCH*
Yes, strange no replies before ours this morn Ax, sorry about that ! And a fellow Brit at that !!
Sometimes posts slip through the net ! But these photos are lovely – and I’ve just clicked on your welcome post re the story of Red & Cinders
How lucky you went in there that day and found Red! I didn’t know Pets at Home took in rescue rabbits…? and what a cheek about the previous so-called ‘owner’ (hah!) asking for him back once he was cared for.
It sounds as if Cinders really needed another mate too, the way she grooms for King and Country !! LOL
Could you give him ear muffs to protect his ears….? Or Playgirl Bunny ears !! (oh so funny Vienna!)
I know, I was so lucky to find him, I was (and still am) grieving for my boy Gareth but when the lady at PAH told me the previous ‘owner’ had been back asking for him I knew I couldn’t leave him there. I’m not sure how long they have been doing it but usually in the bigger stores they have a small rescue section (usually only 2 cages).
Luckily Cinders grooming technique has changed as there haven’t been anymore sores in his ears, yey
He’s gone in for an Xray this morning, bless him. Hated leaving him there but at least he has Cinders there waiting for him when he wakes up. I asked them to do a C&S test whilst he is under & they said they will check his nails too, lucky boy (lol, sorry red). Will be getting all his fav veggies on my way home from work tonight!!
Poor Cinders has had the last 12 months going too and from the vets and she’s never been i’ll whilst i’ve had her! It’s always been for her husbun!
They found nothing with the scan, perfect teeth apparently (that’s my boy!!), so they are now doing a C&S test. He’s in the process of waking up from anaesthetic, they can do the tests in house as they have a lab on site.
Going to pick him up at 4:30, cant wait to give him a cuddle
Ahhhh and he will need a cuddle – they’re all floppy after anaesthetic….. bleeeeess.
(((Comfy vibes)))
With his little ears (nothing wrong with little!) or chunky body (nothing wrong with chunky!) I can’t get a feel for how big he is… how much does he weigh?
I’m not sure actually, it’s on my list of things to do (weigh him) I’ll make sure I do it this weekend
…or you could take a photo of him next to a standard 330ml drinks can…. we did this a few months back with lots of buns (on a thread somewhere) – it was revelating ! And the banana scale method was s(mashed) as there are so mnay different sizes of bananas… I’ll try and find the thread
Ha ha brilliant, I look forward to seeing it!

Found them, I shall take my own tonight
I smell a photo shoot coming bunnies, start practicing your cute faces haha
He is 5lbs according to my scales but that is with me holding him then taking my weight off.
Apparently for a false netherland Dwarf that is about right but he does look a little tubby to me?
A few updates taken from a thread of mine elsewhere:
14.07.16:
so I got a call back to say they knew which Anti-Biotics to put Red on
but it wasn’t one they had in stock so I had to wait an extra few days but
finally got them. He hates the taste, it stinks of banana.
I have been having
a very stressful week having to chase him round, corner him, pick him up and
force it down his throat after bunny burrito’ing him (twice a day!). What makes
it more annoying is that he loved the Metacam and took that like a treat, I am
losing the will to live and hate that he is getting stressed about it (being
chased & picked up). Poor little fella, I have tried injecting it into bread
& pineapple but he’s not stupid, it has a really strong smell, so he’s been
going and nicking Cinders treats instead
Any other suggestions would be gratefully
received, I am going to try putting it in Pineapple juice or Apple juice
tonight. They don’t eat the stalks of leaves so I cant inject it in
there.
As my fella is over in the Isle Of Man competing in the
Southern 100 (and I couldn’t go because of work ) I have been leaving the bedroom door open so the
rabbits have full run of the flat. This is how I get woken up every morning now
haha (obviously this particular video was taken whilst my fella was at home
haha)
18.07.16: Tried putting the meds over peach (which he loves) and Kiwi fruit (never had to
my knowledge), he hopped over, sniffed it, looked at me and hopped off again,
little sod. Looks like I may be stuck with the bunny burrito for now. 7
days worth of meds wasn’t enough to get rid of it, the nose has dried up but you
can still hear the snottyness so he’s been given another 10 days worth, hope he
never gets this again poor little fella
25.07.16: Red: So we’re back at the vets tomorrow as Red has now finished his second
bottle of Co-Trimoxazole (17 days worth)and he still has a wet nose and sneezing
fits. Getting really sick of this, called (again) to register with another vet
who I have heard is good with Rabbits but he is full and not taking on any more
clients. I’m at my wits end here. Poor little guy is fine in himself but I want
him to get better, preferably before Cinders ends up poorly!
*biting nails*
Today (27.07.16): So I went to see the new vet, he took Red’s temperature – never seen the little
fella ‘sit’ so still! He checked Red’s teeth and tummy, asked how he was eating
(fine) and whether he was going to the toilet ok (yep).
He prescribed
Baytril for 7 days & I am to wet the hay and stop using Sawdust to see
whether there is an improvement whilst he waits for the Xrays and C&S test
results from previous vets
So we’ve been on Baytril for 4 days now and already Red’s nose has almost dried up, sneezes are still there but we are definitely making progress! Thank God.
Only downside is last night I noticed Cinders sneezing a lot (she’s always been a sneezy bunny but last night was off the scale – Nose looks dry though) Back to the vets for another bottle for her I guess!
Little Red was on Baytril for 2 weeks, his nose dried up for a few days then whilst still on meds it became wet again (clear not white) although not as bad, it seems to be just when he has been running around/ jumping that it get wet now.
So myself and my vet have decided to leave him be for now and if his nose becomes more wet/ he sneezes more again, he will go back on the meds. I have come to the conclusion that maybe he’ll never have a completely dry nose
Cinders didn’t need Baytril in the end, think her sneezing was just due to the type of hay the lady they were boarded with used
Some buns have wet noses simply because the nose is a heat exchange that also involves moisture. And some buns have allergies just like people, which is why it’s recommended that a culture be done prior to starting a course of antibiotics. Just keep an eye out for discharge, especially of the unclear kind.
Glad both furbabies are ok now
Baytril plus wetting hay plus removing sawdust – the improvements seen with Red could be any one of those individually, or 2 together or all 3…. only by reintroducing one by one or removing (Baytril) you can eliminate the possibilites and find out the real cause….
But it’s great that he’s better !!!!
Do you have access to unlimited fresh grass? Could you replace the hay by fresh grass for a week or so to see if it’s the hay….? Watching closely for improvements… just a thought !
Yeah plenty of fresh grass available, will try that, thanks
The past 2 days there has been no moisture at all
