Hello I’ve owned my rabbit for 2 yrs now, I noticed every year toward the end of the summer she would chew at her neck creating a hole I took her to the vet the first time and her vet gave me antibiotics so her wounder will heal and protect her from infection. Her biting was concluded to her wanting attention, her health in tip top shape. This week I’ve been busy with work and hadn’t her let her outo the cage and she started the biting again so I let run around for a few hours once I come in for work, yesterday I noticed aside from the scary hole she chewed out of her neck she now has her left eye closed to a squint with small mucus oozing and her lids are pink. Should I be worried? Unsure of what’s wrong with her eye however her neck is healing but now her eye looks irritated and this has never happened in the past Any advice..

Eye-problems are often caused by teeth-roots being pushed up into the upper jaw-bone due to malocclusion. You should have your vet check her molars. Malocclusion is common in pet rabbits. It can often be fixed by a molar grind, where a vet or a trained member of staff grinds the molars down so they are properly aligned. The molars can often not be seen without anesthetizing the bunny. A radiograph may be needed to check for abcesses around the teeth roots.

Her biting herself could perhaps be a reaction to pain. Anyhow, you should call your vet an make an apt, both for the hole she’s chewed and for her eye. Meanwhile you can rinse her eye with human eye-wash (saline). Take care not to touch her other eye as you do it, you don’t want to transfer any of the goo.
