Hi, new rabbit owner here. Anyway, I bought Muffin 3 days ago and, wanting her cage to be as nice as possible bought her a bunch of toys. A wooden carrot shaped chew, a wooden ball on a chain, a wicker mat with wicker ball attached and this squidgy cloth chew toy thingy. Only thing is, she doesn’t play with any of them.

Anyone know what the reason could be? Should I try different toys with her or should I just put her down as been a rabbit that won’t ever use the toys I’ve bought? She’s a strange one to be honest, she decides to sleep in the strangest places. When I came home from work today she was asleep in her food bowl and usual she squeezed herself into a tiny gap between her ramp (leading to an upper platform) and the cage with her head and lower body sticking out. When I first saw her like that I thought the daft thing had gotten stuck.

I think it’s too early to say one way or another. I’m sure Muffin is still adjusting to her new home, so maybe she’ll take to them a little later. My rabbit, Hugo, isn’t a huge toy player (he’s more interested in things he can hop up on or climb), but he’s gotten a bit more receptive to them as he’s gotten older.

She still isn’t using her actual toys but, I have discovered she likes climbing too. Whenever I put some cardboard or boxes in her cage she enjoys clambering up and over them. Guess I’ll stick to those as her toys.

I agree with HereComesTheBun. It’s early days yet and everything is new to her. You might say everything is a toy for her. New home, new people, new scents, new everything. Giving her toys is a bit like when you take a one-year old child to the zoo and expect her to be amazed at a zebra, when a cow would have been equally new and baffling to her =) I think your bun will love her toys once she gets settled in and gets a feel of things.
