My new bunny is going in to be spayed tomorrow, I have only ever had male animals neutered which is not really a big deal both my dogs and cat were acting normal the same day after the pain meds wore off, but with a girl I understand the surgery is worse, my male rabbit is not fixed because he has permanent inner ear damage due to an ear infection and I don’t want to put him through the surgery, and hes already 5 years old, so I have never had a rabbit fixed before either. What happens after the surgery? how long before she will be her happy bouncy self? and this might be a silly question, but has anyones bunny hated them after getting them fixed? I feel like she will be really mad at me for leaving her at the vet all day and coming home in pain, what kind of pain medication do they give them, is it like the antibioctics that are bubblegum flavored or something I have to force into her? thank you for any responces I really appreciate it

How did your girl make out?

It’s very normal for bunny to take several days to a week to feel like her normal self. Most vets will give Metacam for pain meds. She most likely won’t want to eat much at first. It’s important to just keep an eye on her. Her poos may be a little mushy from the meds but as long as she is pooping. She will be very tired and will want to sleep lots. And no, she will not hate you. Keep her quiet. Don’t let her run or hop. Keep her area very clean and make sure to check her incision at least once a day for redness, bleeding or swelling.

thank you so much for the reply, the surgery went well, but it actually turns out that dusty is a boy and was sexed wrong at the initial vet visit because he is so young, im not sure how i feel about that but he is neutered, i wanted to get it done as young as possible anyway cause i think its less tramatizing when they are babies, but he is pretty much acting normal, a little tired, he ate all his vegetables and was drinking and eating pellets, he really loves to eat, he just seems mad that his stomach is shaved, but boys are easy im glad he is not a girl i was so worried about the spay hurting now i dont have to worry so much. They said they gave him pain meds before he left and doesnt need anymore

That’s good, his fur will grow back, but he doesn’t understand what went on, in a few days can you give him a hug from me and Olly please? He is a big brave boy!
