We have a flemish giant, Boris, who is almost 12 weeks old. We feed him unlimited alphalpha hay and unlimited pellets. I’m a little confused about when and how to intoduce veggies to him. Many places say 12 weeks, but I’ve also read you should wait until 6 months with flemies. Any advice on when and how much?

Hi, I don’t have a Flemish giant too big and my neighbours will go nuts hehehe. But I do have an English Angora. Anyway check this link from the House Rabbit Society on how to introduce veggies.

Also it says 12 weeks–introduce vegetables (one at a time, quantities under 1/2 oz.) Honestly I’m not sure what 1/2 oz is so I give a 2 or 3 inches of the veggies and see if my bunny can tolerate it. This was for 5 days to make sure my bunny doesn’t get runny poop. Then add 1 inch per day until I can safely give 1 cup of veggies.

I recommend using romaine lettuce first since bunny adore this veggie if not there are still some other veggies.

Give your bunny veggies that are low in oxalic acid. I notice Mints has a strong smell that most of my friends rabbits avoid it as well as my rabbit.

Veggies that I feed my bunny are Romaine lettuce, Basil (the sweet one), Bok Choy and Cilantro. I mix it all until it is 1 cup of veggie. A variety of veggies is better than one type of veggies for your bunny.

If the veggies have high oxalic acid make sure you rotate them.

              Hope this helps
