Earlier today I discovered Izzy has pinworms again. She’s had them once before towards the end of April and got treated for them in May. The vet gave me some liquid oral stuff to give to her once a day over 3 days via the oral syringe and that did the trick, pinworms were killed straight away and never showed up again. Until today.
After finding them on her, I quickly cleaned her bum and then cleaned out her litter tray and there was LOADS in her litter tray. It was disgusting, but I carried on cleaning it and gave her a freshly cleaned litter tray with fresh litter pellets. She seems rather confused at the whole sudden cleaning but otherwise she seems happy. She’s been eating her food normally (veggies, pellets, hay) and her poop has been normal. She’s been drinking normal as well. She’s genuinely the same in herself, binkying everywhere, climbing all over me, grunting and lunging at me when I put my hand in her cage, playing with her cardboard tube, everything. She’s just herself. But she was last time too, so I don’t think these pinworms really effect her mood, behaviour or eating habits.
The only thing that’s confusing me is where did she get them from? When I adopted her from her former owner, she’d never been on grass before because her former owner lived in a flat that had no garden. So it was her first time being on grass when she came home with me. I’m thinking maybe she got them from the grass? But then again my other rabbit, Spock, he’s been on the grass too and has never had pinworms. I always check and he’s perfectly healthy. Can one rabbit be immune to pinworms on grass compared to another rabbit?
Another thing I was wondering was can I buy the treatment the vets gave me in a pet shop or online, but the annoying thing is I can’t remember what it was they gave me. I don’t think it was Panacur because it was in a small brown bottle and was like a white liquid more than a paste. Also Spock was given Panacur by the vet as a preventative against worms as apart of his yearly injection package, and he had to have his paste given to him once a day over a course of 10 days. So does anyone know what it was Izzy might have been given? And also, can I give Izzy Panacur to help kill the pinworms or will I have to give her something else, like the stuff the vet gave me? I’m trying to figure out whether I need to go to the vets or not as it means if I do, I’ll have to book an appointment, make sure I have enough money to get a taxi there and back and enough money to pay for the treatment.
Any help would be appreciated.
