Hello! I just recently acquired my new bun bun from a friend who kept him in a small cage. I’m trying to fiquire out what is the best cage for him? I was originally going to build him a c and c cage but reading the forums I don’t know if that is the right cage for him. He is about 5-6 lbs and gets lots of out of the cage time now since he has a typically small cage from a pet store. I appreciate everyone’s input for helping my Arie have a better life.

I would recommend an exercise pen like this:

          http://www.petsmart.com/dog/houses-kennels/midwest-exercise-pen-zid36-6832/cat-36-catid-100017?var_id=36-6832&_t=pfm%3Dcategory

At least 36″ inches high – maybe higher depending on if he’s a jumper or climber.

I have to agree with Sarita. Even though I’ve seen some great NIC cage setups and other DIY cages, I think the exercise pen is really a great way to go. It gives the space they need, is easily moved to another location and quick to cleanup the area.

C&C (aka, NIC) cages are great. Anything you can set up with an ex-pen, can also be set up with storage cube grids. I don’t see any need to change your plan to use C&C grids, even if you do change your design.

If you have room for an xpen, that is definitely the way I would go. My French angora is currently living in a large dog kennel until I can get her spayed and bonded with my holland lop, who lives in a large hutch (the kind you normally find outside buns in). It’s a nice hutch, but smaller than I’d really like. I’d prefer to have them both in xpens, but I don’t have room. Their current accommodations are adequate as long as they both get plenty of out time, but it’s not ideal. It’ll be better once they are bonded, because while the hutch is still small, I won’t have to rotate their free time anymore so they will both spend less time confined.

I like the idea of the NIC cages so I think I will stick with that or I was thinking a dog kennel but the size for a great Dane and make a second floor in it.

I have a 48″x30″x30″ dog kennel and love it. (:
