Mocha has had a goopy eye for the pas week or so and I am not sure what to think. He shows no other signs of being sick and still has lots of energy and continues to go crazy over food! You can see in the first photo there is is white goopy stuff in the corner of his eye. Sometimes he gets wet streaks down his cheeks (shown in the second photo). He also will close the eye that is goopy or wet. The first time it happened (a few months ago) I figured it was just something that poked his eye but now he has goop every day. I think one of the other bunnies licks it off (or he cleans it off) because whenever I come back to look at it, its gone. I am having some people tell me to go to the vet and others say to see if he starts showing any other symptoms and I don’t know what to think.

Makes me wonder if he has a clogged tear duct….or perhaps the roots of his molar root intrusion.

I had someone else thinking it could be a blocked tear duct but I’m leaning more towards teeth. I feel like when looked at his X-ray back in January his molar roots went really far up into his head… I didn’t think that was normal. Do you know if healthy teeth roots normally grow that high?

Bindi has pretty chronic blocked tear ducts. He has to go to the vet on Thursday to have them flushed. Blocked tear ducts are not a big deal, as long as any tooth problems have been ruled out. Molar roots that are too long can push on the nasal and eye areas causing the ducts to become blocked. This is a common problem for lops.

He does have long teeth. When the vet took xrays she said they were a little long but she wanted to wait a little bit because it wasn’t that bad yet. She said if it caused him problems to being him in and have it done. Now, with that being said, she was not a rabbit savvy vet (even though she claims she sees rabbits) so I don’t trust her and to me his molars looked super long… But I haven’t seen a healthy rabbit mouth X-ray before.

I don’t have any ideas but I hope he will get better I will pray for him!

P.S. Your youtube channel is what educated me about the care and work that rabbits need and now I’m going to get one in a couple weeks.

Wow! I certainly think then at his age and the fact that he is a lop that he could be having dental problems.

I agree… I hope my Mom lets me bring him in. She thinks that a runny eye is nothing to be concerned about and that we are to busy to take him in this week. So hopefully next week?
