I have a 3.5 year old mini rex rabbit. We recently had to move into a new apartment that has all wood floors. He cannot run on the wood floors and I feel so bad for him. We have small rugs in the kitchen and a large rug in the living room, but I miss not being able to see him run zoomies all around. I’m wondering if anyone else has a similar problem with wood or tile floors and what they do to give their rabbit extra exercise?

go to ikea and get a few of their cheapest rugs that you can lay end to end. they usually have at least one of their designs on sale for around $50-$60

I also go to Ikea or other places that have cheap rag-rugs, then I put anti-slide/slip weave under them or they’ll crumple up when the bunny runs on them and that may be scary (for the bunny). 50-60 dollars sound a bit much though, but maybe longhairmike gets heavier mats than I do, and with a heavier mat you don’t have to do the anti-slide underneath. My mother has wooden floors so when my bunnies come to visit, we roll out the rag-rugs for them.

caution: Bunnies may like to eat rag-rugs. It’s not good for them so you should look out for that.

Thanks. He eats every kind of rug we get so I have been hesitant to get too many rugs. He loves pulling the fibers up. I live really far from an ikea but maybe I can find some at goodwill or a garage sales.

Some nice indoor-outdoor carpet could work. I find my buns don’t chew it.

If you live near a World Market/Cost Plus they sell sea grass mats and jute rugs that are safe for bunnies to chew. They aren’t cheap but they are not crazy expensive either. Not practical to do a whole room in, and I think they are rough on floors, but maybe do one hallway and maximize on the distance?

Most rabbits like to climb. I’ve built “bunny castles” out of cardboard boxes with several levels, and they get exercise jumping up and down from level to level. If you can’t find boxes, you can buy moving boxes and wardrobe boxes at Home Depot that are nice and sturdy.
