I’d like to introduce my latest baby
I haven’t officially named him but i’m thinking Sherlock He is in his own cage until i have him neutered and then i will have to start the bonding process with Peach and Shamus
Oh! <3 <3 <3
Overwhelmed by the cuteness here.
Is this the pet store one you posted about Floppybuns? Because if it is, I agree it’s not 9wks old. I don’t know how you’d feel about doing this but you can report them to RSPCA if they’re selling under age rabbits.
This one reminds me of when I got TimTim. He was about 4wks old.
If you have some kitchen scales to weigh him, that might give you a closer idea of his age. My vet worked on a rough scale of 100g per week old for Tim.
ETA: I’m calculating how many hours it’ll take me to drive to Perth…
Want!
I know i was thinking about reporting them but don’t know the process?
He is so tiny and precious i think he is a bit thin too. But he has been munching up his hay! I have an appointment to get him checked out, torromow I was already taking my other too in so thought i might as well bring him (of course in a seperate carrier). I wasn’t going to get him even though i wanted to but today i was walking past and this lady was going to buy him for her 3 year old daughter!!!! and i just couldn’t let that happen!
Hehe no jerseygirl he is mine hahah!
I think i do have scales i will try and weigh him!
Apparently he is a mini rex, its hard to see in the pictures but his whiskers are kind of curly hehe!
I think I wouldn’t have been able to resist either.
That’s funny, i did the same when I got TimTim. I had an appt the next day for my pair and was able to being him along.
I thought maybe a mini Rex too but I couldn’t really tell from the fur. Time will tell.
Ill trade you him for a bale of hay. I already have it the boot of the car ready to go!
haha hmmm I think ill pass on that offer my mum has a whole shed full of hay haha :p
I just weighed him he was between 280-300 grams poor tiny thing!
You are the BEST Floppybuns!
PS – Good try Jersey! LOL!
Edit to ADD – Just find your local number for the RSPCA and give them a call and tell them that you bought an underage bunny. They should take you through the process from your call – nothing for you to worry about. You will be anonymous so don’t worry about that either. Just think of the next ‘tiny’ bunny that someone wants to buy for a 3 year old it’s worth a phone call.
I have no problem if the bunny is being bought for a family with a 3 year old – but FOR a 3 year old????
Yikes!
so maybe 3 weeks old?? He reminds me of 4 though for some reason.
With the RSPCA, I think just ring and chat to someone? They can prob walk you through the process. You might not need do a formal report. If you do, you can remain anonymous if you want.
They won’t be able do much if the store doesn’t have any more at the moment but they can certainly do some visits in the lead up to Easter.
Thanks AndHenry
Jerseygirl- Gosh i hope he is older then 3 weeks! eeep poor thing! Does anyone on here have a mini rex? maybe they would know how big mini rex’s are as babies.
Hm i think i will give the RSPCA a call expecially if they get more little ones in! its just not good enough! they are selling them saying they are 9 weeks!
It’s hard to say on age. You could email his picture to a breeder and ask their opinion on age.
No way is your guy 9 weeks. I don’t know anything about Rex’s – but your guy is tiny! Luckily he is with you!!!!!!!!
Call the RSPCA. Your guy is in good hands, the next may not be so lucky? I’m angry at the pet shop, they should know better, but I’m even angrier at the breeder for letting him go so young! When I got Henry I HAD to wait till he was 8 weeks (she insisted) and then picked him up at 9 weeks. Your vet will also give you advice on his age, etc., talk to them about it also seeing you are going tomorrow. He is beautiful! He is so lucky, but your luckier! Enjoy!
PS – If you find your guy missing and a bale of hay on your front lawn you’ll know who’s got him????? LOL! Cheers.
I need some help putting together a playlist for the Nullarbor.
Just put some Cold Chisel on – that will get you there Kate! Ha ha haha……
I was pretty confident he was NOT 9 weeks old! I also had to wait until 8 weeks to get Peach and Shamus when they were bubs.
I know AndHenry i hate that they lie about their ages!! If you going to breed have the decency to let them stay with their mother until 8 weeks! I will be calling the RSPCA!
HAHA jerseygirl good luck with the playlist :p
If he is under age am i ok just feeding him hay and a small amount of Oxbow pellets? any suggestions on looking after a bun so young?
Yep, just keep feed basic. Hay and pellets. What kind of Oxbow is it?
Oh Andi, I don’t know if I can handle that much cold chisel. Lol! That will take me right back to school days.
Yep! My youth – I remember (sorta??? LOL!) those days – the music takes me back every time!!!! Ha ha ha…..
Just make sure you give your guy the Oxbow pellets for ‘young’ rabbits Floppybuns. I’m sure you already know that having had 2 baby buns. (I didn’t till I became a BBer – I was a bad bunny mummy! But I know better now). And I wouldn’t limit them. As he empties his bowl, top it up again. He’s eating his hay and drinking water – that’s fantastic! He’s gonna do wonderfully!
unfortunetly i can’t get oxbow for young rabbits
last time I checked they wouldn’t deliver it to WA I will check again though. Yeah he isn’t wait and drinking fantastically though
Really….. WOW! I live in QLD the ‘NON’ bunny state and even I can buy it. If there is a phone number on the Oxbow packaging that you have, call them and I’m sure they can refer you to someone that you can buy it from or have it delivered to you. That’s what I did. I now have the choice to buy it from a pet shop 30 minutes away (even Henry’s exotic vet stocks it, a bit more expensive) or I can order and have it delivered. We chose to buy it from the pet shop cause we don’t want to give out our address for a ‘bunny’ food delivery. If you can’t find the phone number for Oxbow, let us know, I’m sure any if not all of us BBer’s can get it/give to you.
Yeah i buy my adult pellets on oxbows ebay page but when i go to buy the young pellets it says ‘Sorry to all our friends in WA, we can’t ship this product (or our Young Guinea Pig Food) into your state – all other products are fine for WA.’ I’ll give them a call tomorrow and see if there is anywhere i can buy it hopefully!

That would have been ok for him. I know some others on here went straight to the adult pellet because their buns handled it better.
FB, run it past the vet at the checkup. You might be able to do unlimited Timothy pellet and Lucerne hay or something.
Sorry for the doulbe post, i didn’t think it had posted but then realized it was on the next page… haha woops!
Ok i will check with the vet tomorrow and see what they think at the moment he is having oaten hay because thats all i have. should i get some lucerne hay for him? I have read something about giving baby buns alfalfa hay but not sure if that is right?
Aw he’s a cutie! I think Sherlock is a great name for him
And I’m so glad you rescued him from the fate of a three year old…like seriously?! I just went to the pet store in the mall last week (I always go visit the bunnies and give them some love) and there were so many there that time! It makes me so mad that these poor babies are just most likely going to end up dumped off somewhere because the kids will get bored or the parents won’t want to take care of them and the bunns start growing into their teenage stage. It’s such a sad thing! I always hate this time of year because of the poor rabbits sake. I really hope you get somewhere when you call!
Yay! I already saw it on tumblr
congratulations!!!!!
He has been vet checked and other than being young and small he is all healthy Still trying to decided on a name I love Sherlock but i don’t know if it fits him (its hard he is so smal nothing except tiny fits him haha) the other names i have been considering are Watson, Hamish, Dimitri, Loki, Rory (cause it could be a boy or girl name), Bunedict (isntead o benedict? heh heh…) Ugh its to hard to choose! I’ll try to upload more pics
Stricking a pose!
Why it out of your feed dish when you can sit in it?
How about Hercule, or Poirot (pronounced Poy – Row) after the Agatha Christie character. He was small and feisty.
And Poirot has the moustache.
I just noticed the tan parts FB. He looks like he might be a ‘broken’ otter colour bun.
Haha Poirot is a good idea although i fail at saying it haha.
Oh JG i didn’t even know there was such thing as broken otter. I’ll have to google it! Thanks!
Floppybuns: Since he’s so tiny, how about “Pixel”?
Yeah, he has the ‘broken’ or ‘spotting’ pattern gene. Without that, he’d have full black otter pattern.
Hazel, this little one reminds me of your Oscar.

I was thinking the same thing, jerseygirl! Even the fur looks very much like Oscar’s did when he was a baby. You can definitely tell there’s some Rex in there.
