So my bunny Lucy is being extremely picky about what she chews on  I’ve tried paper, a chew toy, cardboard, a magazine to no avail. Idk what to do! Her teeth look a bit longer today and I need her to start chewing! She really likes my walls but I will not let her chew on those obviously. She is 12 weeks old . Any ideas on bunny-safe chew toys??

Toys are not what keeps the teeth in check; it’s hay, though that’s not to say if teeth are too long they are not eating enough hay but usually should be enough unless they are breeds that tend to have issues due to their facial structure. Bunnies don’t need to chew on toys; two of my three buns do not chew toys.

Miaeih is correct. Toys can help relieve boredom though and some fun chew toys are willow toys (BB store has a great selection) and apple twigs.

Well, you have to remember that bunnies are all about eating, and paper, cardboard, and magazines don’t TASTE like anything. That may be why they’re getting ignored.

Willow toys and apple twigs are both dried out tree branches that taste good to a bunny… and are safe to eat. So I would go that route. There are many online stores (including BB) that sell these items. Pet stores don’t usually carry anything like that (they tend to just have the manufactured junk).

As far as a wood chew, if you want to provide that too, your best bet will be something you can anchor down. Rabbits get frustrated when they’re trying to chew something and it keeps moving away. Imagine trying to eat a sandwich, but you can’t hold it in your hands. You have to just bite at it while it lays on the table. Every time you take a bite, you accidentally push it further away from you. You’d be frustrated too!

I recommend an untreated plank of wood (like a 2×4), doesn’t have to be very long, and attach it to the bars of your pen at a comfortable height for your bunny. She’ll start gnawing on the edges.

Yes chew toys are for boredom not keeping teeth healthy. Hay is what is needed for good teeth health.

Beka does make a good point though – those items are not tasty in the least.
