My bunnies live on carpet.  They are litter box trained and are consistent users with only the occasional marker turds outside the box.  They shed.  They have hay balls, but bits of hay are on the ground.  One of the bunnies likes to tear up boxes and cardboard.

Right now I have a big shop vac that I use to clean up the floor of their cage.  It is heavy and way too big.  I would like to get a small shop van, but wondered if they would be as effective b/c the hose is 1.25 in diameter.

Anybody use the smaller shop van?  Any problems?  What do you use to clean your bunny cage?

I have a smaller shop vac. The only problem is hay clogging up the hose. Sometimes I have to take it apart so I can get the hay unwedged.

I have a really cheap little vacuum cleaner, the only problem is Barney is terrified of how loud it is! It definitely helps me though, i was forever on my hands and knees with the dustpan and brush!! x

I have pretty small, very portable shop vac that I have used. I haven’t had a problem with clogging or anything. It is great for reaching areas you just can’t get with regular cleaning. I’d recommend it.

I have a small 5lb shop vac that I use for heavy duty cleaning of the bun cages. But when I’m not using it have a small hand vacuum/dustbuster. I found that the combination of the two really works. Since I clean the bun cages everyday it does get very tiring to have to deal with the shop vac. So every Friday I do a heavy cleaning and vacuuming of the bunny cages with the shop vac and the dustbuster for the light cleaning days.

My rabbits are on carpet, too. Usually I use a dust pan for poops but when I vacuum I use this little one from Target (I don’t use that thing on the end of the hose though). http://www.target.com/p/vacmaster-2-5-gallon-wet-dry-vac/-/A-11587240#prodSlot=medium_1_2&term=vacmaster
When the hose gets clogged with hay/fur/poops I just put the hose in the blower hole and aim it out the door – usually gets it out.

I have a very small shop vac and have never clogged it up or had any trouble with it. I do clean the filter part out just after using it every few times, which probably helps. I love it.

But, being lazy, I don’t often bother to take it out if I can use my hand daily for some spot cleaning. A damp paper towel is great for picking up stray hair and litter while you hold it, because the moisture makes it stick together a bit.
