Your vet might do it – you can call and ask. I’ve had vets do this for me in the past. It will definitely grow back if it’s clipped.

Big mats will have to be clipped out. If you do it yourself, go slowly and carefully and be aware of where her skin is. It will probably have to be done in more than one session unless she will really cooperate and stay still for you. The fur will grow back. All long haired rabbits will need regular grooming/brushing. Some vets may do this, also some groomers may do the trimming, but you would need to make sure that they are experienced with rabbits. One of the rabbits at the sanctuary where I volunteer was an Angora and had gotten very matted. We tried brushing and clipping, but we thought that a groomer might do it better. They ended up nicking her in several places and told us that they would not groom her again.

Piglet is all matted at the moment and I am having to do nightly clips, a little at a time. Have tried twice with vets to get him shaved. First time they missed one side and he still had tangles under his legs the second time they charged me $200 then told me after that they didn’t have the clippers for fine fur so just hand trimmed and still didn’t get the deep plush fur. I have found a lady that shows angoras who is willing to come to the house but I just need to save the money again now.

Your vet likely would. Another option is to find a professional dog groomer who has groomed cats (The stretchy thin skin is very similar thus the need for caution) would be willing to do it with your assistance, I had good success with a groomer who worked with me on a matted rescue angora. It took about three hours but between us we were able to do a good job.
I would urge you not to try yourself as their skin is stretchy and thin an d a little nick can become a big wound so it’s best to find someone with experience to help. Good luck and keep us posted!
