I am going on holiday for a month and sadly have to leave my bunny behind. I have arranged for Bambam to stay in a pet shelter with a trusted pet sitter. I have never left him before, not even for a night and I am very worried about leaving him.

Is there anything I can do to make him feel more 'at home' and at ease with staying in this strange place with strange noises and strange people? He isn't even going to be staying in his cage as they have a much bigger one that is more suitable for him to stay in for a longer period of time. 

Please help

Make sure he has a place to hide in his new cage, like a box (especially if you can bring one from his current home that he's comfortable with). Having his own litter box that smells like him should help him adjust as well.

Make sure that his pet sitter feeds him all the same things hes used to: the same veggies and hay hes getting now. And send all the stuff that hes used to: his feed dish, toys, etc.

If there is anything you can give that smells like you too, that may be comforting as well. Maybe an old t-shirt you don't mind giving up that he could then sleep on. (Unless he is a big chewer and would eat it instead of cuddle with it).

A nice cardboard box to destroy... Get a mid sized (strong) plain cardboard box. Tape the top and bottom shut really well (Non Tox masking or packing tape). Cut holes in the side (2 should do) just a smidge smaller than bunneh body (half the fun is chewing the holes bigger) but big enough for them to squeeze through. Place in play area. Have vid phone ready to record the fun.

When I went on vacation for a couple of weeks and left Spockie with a friend, I tied a used knee sock to the top/side of his cage. It smelled like my feet (ewe, but he loved my feet!) but he couldn't chew it. He licked that sock, though, until it got stiff! But I guess he loved having it there.

I just dropped Bambam off! Very sad but he seemed very at home in his holiday house, started munching on the hay straight away, wouldn't even say bye to me! The woman there seems very happy to have him, just hope he is ok!
