Kylie's condition continues to deteriorate.  She is eating, although I'm not sure how much she's actually consuming.  And while she's still pooping today we noticed that they've gotten much smaller.  She's also lost weight since last week - I think Scooter said about 300g although that seems like a little much to me.  She has a problem getting up if she's on her side, and sometimes after a while will just give up and lay there.  I started her on Crtical Care tonight, which she really liked.  But I'm really not sure that she's goin to make it to her vet apppointment on Thursday.

I don't think it's necessarily an age related thing. Vibes for Kylie and please keep us updated.

Makes me wonder if perhaps she has an inner ear infection...

I don't think it's an ear infection. Her hopping is like her legs just don't work properly, not like she's offbalance. She's shown no interest in her banana this morning, which is quite unusual for her.

Honestly, she's just looking ancient to me right now. My mother has a cat that's very old, and diabetic, and is pretty clearly getting close to the bridge and there are so many similarities between her and Kylie it's just shocking. I'm going to give her some more critical care this morning and see how she does with that.

The problem with trying to determine how much her behaviour has changed is that she's never really been a very social or active bunny to begin with. She's always pretty much hated people, the only bunny she ever consented to being around much has been Keelie, and then she came to tolerate Carbun (although now he's staying by her side and Keelie is staying 2 levels away in the condo), so I can't really say oh she's been slowing down a lot lately because she's always been pretty subdued. Unless she was fighting with another bunny. Come to think of it maybe her accepting Carbun was a sign of her slowing down then.

Actually she's not really taking the critical care this morning either. Her eyes aren't open all the way. She's pretty stiff and it looks like her breathing is slow. I honestly don't know if she can see right now - I've been wondering for a few days if that perhaps wasn't the case because it's been seeming like she's been going more off sound and smell, and now she's really not reacting to anything visual. Mind you she's not really reacting to anything much, period.

ETA:  As for not taking the critical care - I'm feeding it to her with a syringe/dropper, last night she thought it was great, this morning she took the first bit and then she just refused to swallow it.

Kylie has an appt with the vet today at 1:45. I would be stunned if she comes back home. Her deterioration in the last 24 hours has just been shocking. She can't sit up anymore, if I try to sit her up she just falls over again and lies there, doesn't make any effort to get up. I don't even know if she's going to make it until 1:45.

Well I was right, she didn't make it to the vet appt. I had a shower then went to look at her and she just looked so miserable. I picked her up and held her - the last few days she's been so stiff, even when I gave her the critical care this morning, and this time she was just totally limp. She was still breathing and her mouth was opening and closing, just like Reno's did, and then after about 10 minutes she was just gone.

I put her down on the floor and let Keelie and Carbun out - they actually had absolutely no interest in her at all. This morning Carbun was sitting one level up from Kylie, it's the first time that he's left her alone like that. Neither of them really spent much time with her body - they both took a quick sniff at it after a while and that was it. They spent more time jumping over it. In fact after a while, once I had moved her, it became an all-out binky fest with those two. Maybe it's some kind of weird bunny equivalent of a wake.

Scooter here.  Thanks everyone for your well wishes.

To make things worse around here, I found out within an hour this morning that two colleagues had passed away over the weekend, one from an inoperable brain tumor, the other from pancreatic cancer.  And to add insult to injury, the lock on my office door broke, it can't get fixed until lunchtime tomorrow at the earliest, and I spent an hour recreating what I'd need for tomorrow morning.  Yikes!

Kylie also passed on during my lecture this morning.  I normally have bunny pictures at the start of each lecture, and outlines that students get.  It's a way of relaxing everyone, and also makes it easy for me to spot where I stopped each time I lecture.    Well, I kept the same bunny pictures as last year, when I covered this course.  And ironically enough, today's was Kylie's in better times!

Here's the picture that went up in their lecture outlines posted ahead of time, and in lecture today:

And what went into today's lecture notes afterwards, with a change of caption:

I just wanted to add my condolences. I cried reading the earlier posts, I had hoped she would pull through.
She was a beautiful bunny...looks much like my Pip, except with white fur.
Binky free, Kylie. You will be missed.

I'm so sorry, Annette. I just had that feeling it was so much like when Spockie died in my arms while on the vet's examining table just before she arrived. I'm glad she was with you right at the end. She was a beautiful bunny.

Scooter, what a shock about your colleagues, and at the same time as little Kylie. That is so like you to have pix of the bunnies during your lectures. Your students are very lucky. I'm sure they were sympathizing with you as well.
