I have discovered that the heat here in Texas in the summer is great for at least one thing – drying bunny treats!

We planted a willow tree in our backyard a couple years ago, and this year it was finally big enough to trim.  I got a bunch of branches, and made homemade willow wreaths.  But I found out that even simpler than making willow wreaths was drying the willow leaves!  After stripping the leaves from the branches, I laid them out in the trays of my food dehydrator.  After just one day outside the willow leaves were dried to a crisp.  I put them in a salad bowl and used them as treats for the next week.  I also took the roses that I trimmed from my garden and put them on the dehydrator trays and used them for treats as well.

Please note that I don’t use any pesticides on my plants, so they are OK to feed to bunnies.

I am envious! Willow leaves are like Vivian’s drug of choice! When I begin to put down a wreath for her, she literally runs over, grunts and tries to box it out of my hand to hurry me up.  And then she just munches away in complete bliss.

this is so good to hear, I have a willow tree and a weeping cherry (can they eat the cherry branches?) Do I need to dry or can I just clip and give both leaves and stems/branches? I have a dehydrator so I can if I need to.
