So “fluffy” litter is an absolute no with Momo The Destroyer. She will dig it out all over the place. So we switched to Equine Fresh. Now instead of kicking all of it out, she digs out the stuff that turns to dust after being soiled. On top of that for whatever reason she has taken to pooping right infront of her littler box with the pellets. Ok more like half in the box, the other half in front of it. So now I get to choose my battle: fluffy litter all over the place, poop and pee included. Or soiled dust all over the place, with poop not in the box? She is a year old now darn it. Will she ever grow out of this stage? I know she loves to dig. I tried the diggy box. Total disaster. I doubt it is boredom. I have tried so many different toys with her, she just does not show much interest in toys. If it can be destroyed, she will destroy it (hence the name), if she can not tear it to shreds, it is no fun.

This is the usual sight that greets me when I wake up in the morning, or come home from work. She also loooooves to pull all of her hay out of her hay bin and mix it in with the dirty litter. Notice how she lays there, basking in her handy work.

Time for a grid over the litter!! Hannah got really into digging out all of her litter for a while, but after putting grids over both boxes she stopped completely. I have a large one from the BB store that I love. I also bought a roll of hardware cloth to make some myself, since I have a square litterbox as well and none of the pre-made screens fit. It was a huge pain to make my own – my hand hurt from cutting and DH broke one of the dremel tips sanding the sharp points down. lol It was definitely cheaper though, if you don’t mind doing the work. Just make sure you make it small enough – we made them just the size of the litter box, then realized the litter box got smaller at the bottom and the screen didn’t fit.

Tried a screen, she pulled it up and it was gone that day. I am now thinking maybe taking one of my spare nic grids from my shelving and plunking that right down. I have a few friends with dremels to help make it fit. I am just at my wits end with this and ready to condemn myself to a decade of scooping litter back into a box every day for the rest of my life. A less tolerant owner probably would have dumped her off a long time ago. Lucky for her I am very against that practice. I still love her though… most days.

maybe try an enclosed litterbox? like one of those cat ones with the top on it. Or, put the litterbox in a cardboard box, so the dug up stuff only ends up in the cardboard box so it is easily dumped back in.

                Hmm, she’s too smart!

I’ve heard of bunny owners using fluorescent lighting grids (plastic grid things you can buy at the hardware store) and cutting them to size for the litter box. I would imagine those could be harder for the bunny to pull out, but maybe not.

Yes she is very smart. She figured out how to pull down the pet gate. So we put a box in front of the gate. So then she started figuring out how to pull the box out of the way so she can take the gate down. It took her about a day. Meanwhile the cats just look at the gate they can easily jump over and meow at us to help them.

Monkey I really like the box idea. I know where I can pick some up, so I will have to try it. At least until she destroys those too. :/

Oh Joyful, that cage is a very familiar site for me. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one with a less-than-perfect bun. In fact, I have two. One to dig and throw things and the other to poop and pee on it. *sigh*

I would just use something similar to those bunny condo squares and put it over the litter box(with squares a lil bigger then the poop). I would then hindge it with a drill/screw things to the plastic that comes off with a locking mechanism. then put a little hay on top to look appetizing… lol
