Hey guns and buns, I just woke up by the sound of my broom falling O_o when I went to the living room the buns had thrown it and I discovered they broke parts of my hardwood floors, this a rented apartment..they also broke the crackeled paint from the library, and the walls They also destroyed decorations I had on a table a while ago..I’m just so frustrated. I couldn’t even find a couple of the babies when I went, they were hiding in this awkward hole that is in between the kitchen cabinets I had covered that I don’t know how they got in, and the worst is bugs might be in there because of the hot weather here and as I was covering it again, Marble started digging at my hands so bad. I just can’t handle this anymore, they’ve already broke a bunch of other stuff and I’ve been fighting with my husband over the babies because even though he loves them he just can’t stand the mess they’re making and the destruction. And I couldn’t see it until now when I saw the floors…I don’t even know if I can adopt Marble anymore..Graycee already is adopted but idk when she will be able to go to her new home. The only thing I can think of is taking them to the humane society but it just breaks my heart how can I know they will be going to good homes and everything…and then they’re making all this mess that is causing me trouble with my husband too…I know it’s my responsibility even though I didn’t even know about the babies coming but this is becoming harder and harder and I’ve called so many rescues and none can take them in but the humane society. Guys I really don’t know what to do…please help me
Take a deep breath. I understand your concern, but in a couple of months’ time when the babies have all moved out to good homes and peace and quiet is back in the apartment, you will look back at this time and smile.
As far as I have understood on other threads, you are not using craigs list and other web adds? I would do that. That way you can screen the potentiel buyers yourself. Only one of my bunnies is from a shelter. The rest I have found on what corresponds to yours craigs list. I don’t think people looking from bunnies on these sites are worse bunny owners than people who go to a shelter. And what about other rabbit forums? You might find people there who would love a new baby bunny.
Thanks I know I need to think straight and it’s so late and now I’m with insomnia O_o
I was advised not to post in craiglist because there’s people who just want bunnies for other awful purposes so i’m not sure if I should post there or not..
Idk any other bun forums, and I think maybe because they don’t know me they’ll judge me because it’s an accidental litter? I don’t know :S I’m just too confused and mad and sad…
and also the baby bunnies are running after each other nipping and chinning? what is that about? :s
It might be worth investing (appx. $75) in a new Xpen. They are in the petstores and sold for dogs, or online, though shipping is heavy. I would set one up and contain the babies. You can get a plastic cover for it if they are able to jump out, but if you get one taller than 36″ it should be OK as is. It is a worthwhile investment since you’ll keep it after they are gone, and it can come with you if you travel ever with Sophie.
If you need them separated within it, you can get some NIC cubes and just make a barrier or two. Or extend it farther. But I think babies are just too small and fast and slippery, so let them be limited in their space at first while they learn.
You could get a very low pile rug remnant to throw over the good floors too.
Also, try Bunspace dot com, to list the bunnies in their adoption section.
And don’t forget to call back the places you’re already contacted. Even a couple of weeks may mean they have new room, or just assumed you got them adopted so may be more able to help you now that they know you have been trying without success.

Maybe it is completely different in your country…but I am just thinking that if people want to use the bunnies for hunting or other mean purposes, I would think that they would not pay for them? And that they might as well go to a shelter if that was the case. A lot of people are mean to animals, but I think most of those people don’t bother looking for these animals on websites, having the owner visit them and so on. They just pick up animals from the street to be cruel to.
If you look for the owners yourself, you can visit them (both the owner of Molly and the owner of Jack came to visit me, because they wanted to see how I lived, who I was et.c). And you can do some research on the people as well through Facebook or Google. And if you have a bad feeling, you just say no. I think it would be easy to sort out who is seriously interested and who is not by just asking questions.
I hope you get a good night’s sleep. Things always look better in the morning
How much should be the fee to adopt them? How much did you pay (if you don’t mind me asking ) so I know what to write.
I paid $35 for my Monkey, but she was from a breeder. The humane society here charges a $35 fee for adoption too, so maybe its a typical fee around here.
I wouldn’t rule out craigslist. You would have to make them give you lots of information and screen carefully- BUT I got both my boys off of there. I paid $25 for Chubs who was about a year old and already neutered. She also gave me his food bowls, the hay and pellets she had left and a harness/leash (which he won’t let us use-haha). I got Comet for $25 too, and he was 9 months old and not neutered. All we got with him was him. There are good people out there who would give a craigslist bunny a good home! I would just make the ad very detailed and ask for serious responses only- ask them to tell you about their experience with rabbits, about the members of the home that wants him/her, about where’d he/she’d be living, etc. Just ask for lots of info and don’t be afraid to tell someone that you are not comfortable with them adopting one of your buns! Don’t rule it out, just screen carefully!
Oh and I hope you’re feeling better today! It’s easy to get frustrated but hang in there!
Brownie (brown one)
Hi, my name is Brownie and I am a 9 week old buck (not neutered). I absolutely love being petted and cuddling time!
Baby (gray one)
Hi, my name is Baby and I am a 9 week old doe (not spayed). I am the smallest of my siblings and I enjoy being petted very much!
We are very sociable and enjoy the company of faithful bunny slaves as well as other buns. We love spending time together, running around the house, and doing many, many binkies!
We eat lettuce three times a day, pellets, and unlimited Timothy Hay; and we drink lots of water from a bowl. We also live with two yorkies at the moment and we get along just fine. We even groom each other! But, we get scared when they bark looking out the window.
For serious people only who want to take care of and love a bunny. This is a long term commitment, they live up to 10 years or more, so please plan accordingly to your life and theirs. The fee is because I do not want these bunnies to end up in horrible situations that I have read here. There will be an adoption application to fill in and a home visit to see if you have everything you need to take care of this wonderful bunny. They are not spayed or neutered so please take into consideration that you must do this in order to keep down the rabbit overpopulation. Also, when bunnies are spayed or neutered they are much more lovable and tend to have much better litter box habits.
That’s the ad I want to put on Craiglist. What do you guys think? Oh this is the title: Two Adorable Baby Bunnies for Adoption! $30 Fee SERIOUS Inquiries ONLY
Is $30 too much? I just want to be sure that they want to adopt them as a pet and that they have the money to take care of them from now on…also I put these pictures
If there’s anything I need to erase from there or add PLEASE tell me guys THANK YOU!
$3o is definitely not too much. I’ve seen some craigslist ads here in oregon asking $60 or more for a single bun. So $30 is definitely reasonable. Looks like a great ad! Shows you care for them, and aren’t just looking to dump them.
Those are some really cute babies! It is a shame that they can cause so much trouble and be so destructive. If you were able to be there with them alot, putting coins in a can and shaking it whenever they start to chew or destruct some things can be a help to train them but it has to be consistant. That is how I got my Hunny Bunny at a young age to learn not to chew on cords and other things that are a no no.
I would maybe add a link to the house rabbit website? Lots of people who would maybe make great bunny slaves don’t know much about them so it might be a way to get some great people educated?
Thanks for the suggestions guys
That’s a great idea jnc317! I’m gonna link the bb forum and the hrs website!
Okay I added this:
Please take the time to visit these two outstanding websites FULL of bunny information on care, monthly maintenance, diet, cost of having a bunny, bunny proofing, litter box training, homemade toys for bunnies, and frequently asked questions.
https://www.binkybunny.com & http://www.hrss.net/ (House Rabbit Society)
AND my hubby just went to drop off the babies ad to Sophie’s vet!! They said that although the people interested have to contact me, they will help me screen them!
As an fyi, I had come across people who had put up a $35 adoption fee on their ads but when people went to pick them up, they waived it. Basically, it’s a screening process to stop people from getting free feeder rabbits for their snakes.
Oh I’m not waiving it. And I”m going to their homes. And I have an extensive bunny adoption application that Dana Krempels sent me for screening. I don’t think someone would take their time to fill that really long application full of details if they only wanted them to feed snakes and such. I’m not giving them away unless I’m 100% SURE. The vet’s gonna help me screen them and you guys too
I came across A LOT of bunny owners giving away their buns for free and I e-mailed them all to please charge a fee O_o I hope they don’t think it’s awkward but, I just hope they care enough not give them away just like that…

The problem being that your Yorkies are ok, but the bark scares them already, and some idiot might have a hound or beagle that would really do some harm.

Mark said what I was thinking. Only I’d easily ask $40 or more. Even $50. You really want to rule out the risky people, plus you want someone who can afford to care for them so they have money to spend. Once they are approved, you can tell them you are only charging them $30 after all.
One last caution: Take your husband, or even another male friend with you both, on any home inspection. It’s very risky to you to go to a stranger’s house, and vice versa. Be careful who you have over, and if it’s at all OK with your vet, have anyone serious about adopting meet you at the vet’s office where you both are in a public place so everyone involved feels safer.
I thought of one more thing! If you’re going to be asking a higher price- like Rabbitpam suggested, I suggest mentioning your story about this being an accidental litter. You may get flagged if people think you’re a breeder since craigslist doesn’t allow them. Also, I personally wouldn’t buy a bunny from a breeder just because there’s so many who already need good homes. So if people think you are, they may be less inclined to adopt them as well!
Okay I took your advice and changed it
This was an accidental litter. I rescued and adopted their mom (Sophie) when someone dumped her at a pet store, and a month later after having her with me, she had four babies. I’m keeping one, and one of them has already been adopted to a great home. I’ve been taking excellent care of them and they already went to the vet to get checked, and they are healthy. But, please do go to your exotics vet specialist to check your bun and do the tests that are needed in the future. I have references for excellent rabbit specialists here in Broward if you don’t have one already.
I also put that it is $50 each.
That sounds good.

Hormones already? Their age was always an estimate wasn’t it? I wonder whether you may have to limit their freedom for now. Not ideal in long term home but for your situation for right now, it may be best for everyones sake.
Does the vets office have their picture up? Something like that with and “inquire at the desk” notice may help. Bunspace good too if you can advertise there. Can’t hurt to send out positive vibes so heres some for the gorgeous babies ((((((((((ideal home vibes)))))))))
Yes..they told me they’ll put it up today at the vet
I’m gonna try bunspace.com tonight!
and as for the hormones… I have no idea what is going on, they only did it that one time..
Thanks for the vibes jersey
I paid $30 for just Marlee from a breeder on Craigslist. I think your ad is the best rabbit craigslist ad I’ve ever read. And you could let the people know that they can email you with any questions or anything they may be unsure about. That helped me out a lot as a new rabbit owner until I found this website
So good that you decided to put an ad on craigs list! I keep my fingers crossed I hope things are looking a bit better for you now and that you are not as worried.
I actually didn’t pay anything for Molly or Jack…there was no set price on them in the ad. I never asked about the price before the deal was done, but both owners were just so happy to see that their bunnies would go to a good home, that they didn’t want money. I would have thought it strange if they had asked for more than $60 though – I feel that I actually did the previous owners a favour by taking the bunny that they have been incapable of taking good care of. In fact, actually Jack’s owner paid me!! She paid me $200 to my surprise (because I found out immediately he had curled incissors and needed to go to the vet ASAP. I never asked for the money though)
Does anything come with the bunnies? I think you should say they get some food and toys with them which is included in the price. Just so they have something they are used to when they come to their new home.
That’s a good idea Karla
also…I put two classifieds on petfinder.com! They have to approve it in 24 to 48 hours, and if they do, it’s gonna be there for 14 days. Ears crossed!
Great suggestions and I bet this helps take the stress level just having a plan. Keep us updated!
