I was sorta paranoid that there was something very, very bad about cat trees for buns that everyone knew but me, haha!
Vienna Blue, he does have tunnels but I have yet to find a successful dig box method 
I tried newspaper and cardboard but he would only dig if there was a little something something at the bottom (cough…cough..treats…)
He recently got the Rosewood carrot play patch (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004FGF5J6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) which he loves but it is more for chewin and less for wearin out if ya catch my drift
