I was browsing bunnies on Petfinder and looking for local shelters in my area – I had just moved into the city of Chicago from the suburbs, and one shelter stood out because their screening process was very intense! So I knew that they really cared about their bunnies. I had a bunny in mind from their website – a black and white buck who looked like a dwarf. I came in one night about a week after we moved into our apartment, and the adoption coordinator walked us through the shelter and showed us the different bunnies, and I saw the one I liked on the website, and he was just as cute in person.

But then I spotted a small bunny in the corner who was lying down in the cage. I recognized her name from the shelter’s website, but she must not have gotten my attention then (very unflattering picture, girls are always worse at being photogenic!). When we had to choose which 5 buns to meet, I made sure to mention that I wanted to meet her, but luckily she was already included in the list The shelter tried to match me with buns that had the personality I was looking for: active and playful, friendly and affectionate.

The first 2 buns were absolutely gorgeous. The 3rd bun was the buck I had wanted to meet from the website. But his personality didn’t win me over – he just dug at the fleece blankets and marked EVERYWHERE. He seemed too wild. At this point I leaned over to my boyfriend who was with me and who lives with me, and I asked “Which one do you like?” He shrugged. I said “You haven’t fallen in love yet, huh” and he shook his head. The 4th bun was the bun who came to be my Dorothy

They placed her in the pen, and she immediately put her head down to be pet, which made everyone coo lol My boyfriend then said “Look at her tiny paws!” Plus her paws had white tips, and I made the comment she looks like she’s wearing socks. And she was so happy and playful. She even binkied! I looked over at my boyfriend, and I knew he was thinking the same thing I was. It was a done deal. They had me practice holding her and everything that night. I felt bad for the last bun because it was a sweet Himalayan boy, but he didn’t stand a chance.

I have so many favorite things about her, I can’t even choose. I love when she puts her head down in anticipation for pets, I love that she loves to be pet, she licks me a LOT, and she flops against me all the time. Sometimes she’s a real rebellious bunny and can get into trouble, but she’s so sweet and affectionate it’s hard to stay mad at her. Along with my boyfriend, she’s the love of my life
