kirstyol – Sounds like love at 1st sight!!  Did it take long to bond them?  I’ve heard bonding same sex can be more difficult.

Believe it or not it didn’t. When I brought Ron home it was late at night so no way to get him to the vet for a check up – I wasn’t willing to even let them be in the same room until I had Ron checked out so I set Ron up in the hall in Bramble’s old baby cage which we still had kicking about in a cupboard (the cage he came with was inhabitable) The cage was far too small for him but it was all I had and there was nowhere open to get a new pen or anything so it was going to have to do overnight. While I was setting things up I could hear Bramble in the other room going nuts and even thumping (at this point I didn’t actually know that Bramble knew how to thump, he had literally never done it before) I thought I had made the most terrible mistake – Bramble obviously knew there was another rabbit here and he clearly hated him!

We went to the vet the next day and Ron got a clean bill of health apart from the obvious weight and matted fur issues, there was nothing stopping me putting the guys in the same room but we had no plans to bond them until we got Ron all fixed up and his diet changed from the horrible multi coloured supermarket own brand food he was on to what we use. Bramble had other ideas he was just going mental and was so stressed out you couldn’t believe it. I actually started thinking about finding another home for Ron as much as it pains me to admit to that now because Bramble was so distressed. I know my Bramble though, he is super friendly and I began to wonder if he wasn’t so much annoyed that there was another rabbit here that he didn’t want to be here, but rather annoyed that there was another rabbit here that he couldn’t get to to play with. I took a chance and set a pen up in the hall for them with a brand new blanket – within an hour they were sharing a salad before having a lie down together! They were living together full time within a week because every time we took them to their separate areas poor Bramble would lose the plot! They are super happy together and always have been – but I very much think our situation was an exception to the rule, I don’t think many pairs of rabbits, same sex or otherwise, bond within an hour.

I tried to attach a photo of their first time together but it wont attach from my files and I am now on a different laptop than I had then so unfortunately you will just need to believe me when I say it was super cute!
