Rabbits are not as sensitive to onions as dogs and cats, but it’s still toxic to them. Here’s a scientific report on onion as animal-feed.http://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/jf00040a023 In short, animals fed onions get hemolytic anemia, which means their red bloodcells change shape and can’t carry oxygen as they should.

Wild rabbits will eat chives, especially in the spring. I’ve got lots of chives in my garden and to get any for myself, I have to put netting around at least some plants, or the wild rabbits will consume all of it. It’s not good for them in large amounts, but their instincts probably tell them when to stop eating. Domestic rabbits can’t be trusted to “know” when to stop eating sth, so you should keep all parts of onion, garlic, chives, leeks etc out of your rabbit’s reach.

Bet she was seriously cute in the onion-basket though =)
