I think if he is willingly sitting next to you, it can’t be bothering him too much. If he’s not, then I’d try playing it away from him. I used to play Clarinet in high school so I know how high those notes can go. I had to play it outside because it would make my dog howl like crazy!!! 
My bunnies seem to enjoy my mandolin. When I’m playing they will often come lay beside me. I should write them a song….
