LCelestino started the topic Bad GI Stasis?? Or another surgery needed?? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 4 years, 7 months ago
Luna was being treated for what was thought to be GI Stasis. Possible megacolon…After over a week of exhausted all med, pain,iv fluid injections, x-rays & bloodwork the Vet suspects it’s from adhesions acquired from her spay surgery she went through a month ago..
Thus, suggesting surgery that’s looking like a 5,000 price range. Or eutha…[Read more]

Good news today at Luna’s recheck. Her blood PCV is at 32%, which is an amazing recovery. She’s just shy of the ideal range but will be there soon 🙂
We have to wait a few days for her kidney and liver values to come back. The vet was impressed by how her cataract had almost returned to normal.

How is she doing now?
If she has not pooped or eaten in 12 hours, please contact a rabbit-savvy vet and have her seen as soon as possible — regardless of the cause, going that long without GI movement is very dangerous and is a health emergency for a rabbit.
Vet visits and car rides can be stressful for rabbits. That being said, we do expect…[Read more]

Well I just got home from work and there were some poops in his litter box, but they were still tiny and didn’t look quite right to me. He is still running around, eating hay and pellets, drinking, peeing, etc. His appointment with the vet is tomorrow at 11 am so I will mention it to her, I just truly have no idea what could have caused the s…[Read more]

My experience with SPS (notably I did change from their timothy to their orchard last year, so unsure presently what’s going on with timothy) has been consistently good. That being said, hay is a plant that’s grown, so across the board, variation is expected, regardless of brand. I have always had a superb experience with their customer service…[Read more]

Thank you so much, that made me feel so much better! I gave him a smaller amount of pellets this morning to encourage him to eat more hay. I’m at work right now, but my dad just checked on him and said that he is bouncing around and ate a small treat and there are some poops in his litter box already.

Has she been eating since you brought her home? Its so critical to keep there digestive tract moving to avoid stasis. Perhaps try giving her some of her favourite greens washed with a bit of water left on them to increase hydration and ensure she has a lot of hay. You can also sprinkle hay with dried herbs to encourage her to eat more. My fe…[Read more]

Thank you so much! She deffinetly loves the cat scratching boards, I tend to give her the ones my cat has finished using just to keep Domino out of Dahlias area. Not cause he does anything to her, its more for his safety cause Dahlia is a little bully sometimes lol

If the poops are consistent in their large shape and both are well formed, chocked full of hay bits (i.e., crumble upon squishing), and abundant, I wouldn’t be too concerned. Darker poops in the context of same diet could be due to how much one particular rabbit drinks or some about their GI composition, though this is coming from a non-vet. I…[Read more]

It’s very unlikely that he will have a reaction to the vaccine, its extremely rare. I have never had issues with the vaccine. If he had stasis I would get the vets opinion before vaccinating him but if he’s still eating and popping it should be okay.
Is there any reason to be extra anxious? I.e did he eat something he should not have or anything…[Read more]

Thank you for your reply!! Yes they have now been together for 72 hours. This is so exciting to see. They are basically glued to eachother are never more than a foot apart at all times. I think I may have created partners in crime however lol.
