I agree, unless they take in a rabbit that is obviously a baby/young, it’s hard to tell how old it is when they rescue it. If you’re looking for a specific age, websites like Petfinder let you filter things like age, gender, and breed of rabbits in shelters near you.

Until recently RHDV2 was not present in most places of the US, and it was not in wild rabbits. Currently it is only available to import (after permitting) if RHDV2 has been documented in your state. Unfortunately people cannot be proactive and get it until it shows up in their state.

I hate to suggest it, but do you think that maybe this just isn’t a great match, or that Wick is not a great candidate for bonding due to his medical history?  It seems like Fable’s personality is very well suited for him, but I’m surprised he still doesn’t trust her.

Training to go in a carrier is a great thing to do, but I do agree that you should be able to confidently pick up your bun for necessary things. Jersey the shelter named her Joey because of Pacey and then taunted me until I adopted her.😂

How frequently do you clean the box? Most light colored bunnies will end up with somewhat stained paws, but if they are getting bad it means her environment isn’t clean enough.  Bunnies pick there they want to pee, it’s really that they train you to modify their box accordingly. 😉

Oh, Hazel reminded me of another thing!

Try not to use any toys that mimic rabbits. I used to have a stuffed toy that my cat would grab and kick with his back legs. Those types of toys teach the cat to attach rabbit shaped things. So I stick to smaller, wand type toys and little batting toys.

And second trimming the cat’s nails!

She is never closed/locked in. She still has free roam of the room. She just uses it as a ‘home base’ (and a way for me to consolidate the hay mess)

Oscar is pretty good about nail clipping, the hubby holds him while I clip. When he’s back on the ground he’ll do a round of foot flicking, then he’ll come back and demand his mandatory post nail clipping craisin. After that he’s fine and acts like nothing happened. Maybe he just has a bad memory 😉

I would avoid picking him up if at all possible. The least stressful thing to do would be to train him to go into his carrier, then carry him where he needs to go. I think the most important thing is to teach the cat that the rabbits aren’t toys. If the cat starts to stalk, paw at or pounce on the bunnies (or even just gets that hunting “look”) put a stop to it immediately.
