Thank you so much! I think I will try to find horse stall pellets then. I’m just nervous about the wood for the pens. I want my bunnies to be healthy and happy.

As long as the pine pellets don’t contain accelerants like the ones for grilling/smoking, they are safe. The safe kind is usually advertised as horse-stall pellets. I’ve read that untreated pine is safe for a homemade cage. You are correct that pine shavings are unsafe to use as litter, good luck!

I agree with @HipHopBunny that after some pre-bonding you will have a better idea of what to try first. If you notice they are acting crazy towards each other before and right after neuter, it might help to put up a towel between them so they can calm down while their hormones settle down. I haven’t personally tried stress-bonding. Pre-bonding I think should cover it. During those ten days of recovery, I would not allow them to see each other, for it may stress them out, and you should also take it easy on them. That sounds like a good plan! If walking with them in the basket works that’s a lot easier than driving.

You might even do a “stress sandwich” of 5 min stress, 5 min petting, then 5 min stress.

Your plans all sound good to me. The shelter is probably right, for they will need some time to recover from neuter.  After 10 days, they should be healed from the surgery, and be able to see each other, but I would still wait 2 more weeks after that, cause they will still be hormonal.

I was putting them all in a laundry basket and just walking around with them for 10 min and that seemed to stress them out enough so they don’t fight and then i would sit down with all of them still in the laundry basket and pet them for 10 min. Stressing can really help in situations like that. I have had good success with car rides (have someone else drive so you can monitor them). Having them in a bin on top of the washing machine can work well too.  Will Velvet calm down with petting? Petting whenever she sees another bun or another bun approaches may help a lot too.

Agree with Hazel, any combo is possible! Some buns do seem to have preferences but it is more about personality, and most pairs are possible, even if some take longer to bond than others.

Same sex bonds work just as well as male/female. It doesn’t depend on the gender as much as on the personalities. Although you could argue that female/female could potentially be harder, since females are naturally more territorial. I had a male/male pair, they bonded with no help from me (because I didn’t know what I was doing 😆 )
