BraveDandelion started the topic New Bunny Very Shy, Won't Venture Out of Crate in the forum BEHAVIOR 6 years ago

    Hi all,

We adopted Dandelion on Saturday and he is about 6mo. At the shelter he seemed very outgoing/active (coming up to the door of his cage for pets, running, jumping, digging, etc). We were actually a little worried after visiting with him that he might be too rambunctious, but we liked him a lot so we went for it. Now that we have him home…[Read more]

Since they aren’t fighting should I just take it a couple steps back and put them in a neutral area again? They are doing fine I feel like they just haven’t worked out their hierarchy yet because Calliope still isn’t excited about grooming Theo and because of that he doesn’t really groom either which I think is their main problem. Maybe I just…[Read more]

Should be fine. I have a friend who does that with her buns because she finds it easier.

@ThorBunny Thanks for the info! 🙂 Yeah they just got neutered last week and I’ll be attempting to bond them eventually when their hormones are cooled down. Hopefully it will be less smelly within the next few weeks. Thanks!

I think since your rabbits are unbounded and just neutered, you will be having more stinky pee and poops than in the future. When I tried to bond Thor, there was a definite uptick in number of smelly poops left around, even with all bunnies being spayed/neutered.

I spot clean the litter box once a day, since Thor only ever uses one or two…[Read more]

    Thanks alot to everyone!

I will try to cover the area with different things and let’s see how it goes. If I find anything that stops his obsession I will add he info here in case it helps someone else too

Moonlightbunny66 started the topic Onion Poop Curse in the forum THE LOUNGE 6 years ago

I only got my two buns on Sunday but while I clean their pens I can smell the territorial onion poops, which is now stuck in my nose. I can leave the room and go downstairs, I still think I smell the onion poops. I’m sitting in bed right now, I shouldn’t be able to smell them from here (they are housed in my bedroom) but my nose thinks I can. If…[Read more]

    @Bu2005 Thank you!

@DanaNM Thanks! 🙂 Yeah it is really cute lol. I’ve been doing pellets once a day in the morning. Is it fine if I give the pellets with all the veggies for the day in the morning?

I think that sounds like a good idea, potentially an x-pen in the corner of the living room where she has her litter box, water bowl, etc. I do think most bunnies like having their own space, even after spaying.

Bunnies can get obsessed about digging in specific spots. On the floor, usually putting a heavy ceramic tile is enough to get them to give up (or at least protect that spot). Maybe you could try that on the bed corner?

Other than that, probably easiest to keep him off the bed unfortunately.

Hi bam. Thank you for the reply, I’ve increased the dose of meloxicam to 0.6ml which would be close to 1mg which should be good I hope. The antibiotic has been on for 2 days now but no change in behaviour and no attempts to eat at all. I don’t know what I should be doing now, and how do I even know she’s getting better?

Either is fine, it’s basically your preference. I do twice a day because they just get so dang excited about it. 🙂

I only do pellets once a day though.

@Wick has some really good tips on giving medication (or syringe feeding), they describe it pretty well in this thread: https://binkybunny.com/forums/topic/how-to-syringe-feed-healthyish-bunae/

The “C-grip” is the important part. I usually like to give meds with the bun on my lap or on a towel on a table. Have the bun facing away from you, so…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic advice on greens amount in the forum DIET & CARE 6 years ago

I give about the same amounts as @Sirius&Luna (welcome back, btw!), about a handful of leafy veg twice a day per bun, and 1 tablespoon of pellets each once a day. My bunnies are around 5-6 lbs each.

I think as long as you are seeing good hay consumption and healthy poops, no gas, etc, there is some wiggle room on veggie amounts. Herbs are nice…[Read more]

Our rabbit is now a hormonal and moody teenager (5 months, doctor said to spay in a couple months). She’s free roam and gets the living room to herself, but tries to make a dash for our bedroom whenever the door is open, where she hides under the bed or jumps on top of it and tries to claim it. We were thinking of giving her her own space, such as…[Read more]

I think if you up your bunny-proofing you will both be happier, both before and after his neuter. There are lots of good tips on this site, if you go to the “Bunny Info” tab at the top, there is a section on bunny-proofing.

You can use an exercise pen or cube grids zip-tied together to block him from jumping on the bed as well. Cube grids might…[Read more]
