I agree with Dana on many fronts, especially in that the aggressive behavior is very normative and functional for her– it’s not meant as an act to spite you, but rather a belief that she is protecting herself and doing what she needs to to survive.
Is she still eating and pooping as normal? Just under the idea that her behavior might be reactive…[Read more]

Firstly, please don’t give olive oil to a bunny that’s not pooping. Have you been able to see a vet? If anything, give fluids.
To get the oil off you can use cornstarch. Add the cornstarch to the oily parts and then comb it out gently.

You can alternate using a damp and dry cloth/towel to try and get some of it off. Is your rabbit still not pooping? Not many people (at least on these forums) actually talk about using olive oil as a way to help rabbits poop.

Don’t get too discouraged! I’m sure things will get straightened out. I would actually leave her in the pen for a full day at least. Also try to keep in mind that aggression in rabbits is due to fear. It can be hard to tell what they are afraid of, but it is not out of spite or hatred or any human emotion like that. Just take things one step at a…[Read more]

Well Bun Jovi got a clean bill of health! X-rays and urinalysis all clear. The vet actually said his health was “remarkable” for his age, so that’s great! Although it doesn’t really help with the mounting LOL. At least now I know it’s behavioral and not some underlying issue.
I think for now (starting tomorrow) I will put him with the group…[Read more]

Hi all,
I’ve had my foster bun for about two weeks now but I haven’t groomed her yet. I know I need to do it soon.
The problems I am having is that I’m not exactly sure how I should do it. She’s scared of the brush I have tried using, and runs away as soon as I try to put it anywhere near her. I know that some people mentioned to maybe mo…[Read more]

Sounds great, seems like they’re working things out. 🙂
Poor BJ, did you get the results from the x-ray? I hope it’s an easy fix and he feels better soon.
Cooper is bigger than I expected, once he’s all grown up I bet he will be the biggest of the bunch! 😀

Agree with everything Dana said. It is a nasty injury but they will have a good amount of time between now and when they can begin bonding post spay, so hopefully there won’t be any grudges. They should have been seperated before things got this bad, most rabbits will start fighting once they hit puberty, so this really isn’t unusual for a pair…[Read more]

OK, things have calmed down considerably. Phil has settled into a semi-nap on her bed in the pen and we have decided to leave her in overnight. We will let her out while we are at work and then at the first sign of bad behaviour, she will be back in the pen tomorrow evening. And will even be in regardless for part of the evening, as you said…[Read more]

My rabbit recently stopped pooping so we tried to give him olive oil to help him, but now it’s on his fur. Is there any way to get it off of him without having to bathe him?

Hi again DanaNM,
Thanks for your reply. It is very stressful to be honest. It’s kicked off again just now. We were having a quiet enough evening. Phil was being alright, moody and withdrawn but not aggressive. We wore all new/fresh clothes and shoes, nothing Toni has been on.
We were watching TV and eating dessert and Phil was lying on the…[Read more]

I’d say at least once a day, and I genuinely don’t believe there’s any smell or noise that sets him off in most cases. I can be here scrolling on my phone and he’ll suddenly do it without any changes to the surrounding environment, though sometimes I’ll make a sound or movement that triggers him but at least in that case I know what caused it…[Read more]

I have a 8 month old bunny that has been pulling his hair out around his balls, and has been playing with himself for about 2 weeks off and on, the passed 2 days he has started to hump. My bunny is not fixed and there is no other bunnies in our home. We left on a vacation for about a week and left him in the care of my family and I came home to…[Read more]

Bun Jovi is currently at the vets getting an x-ray of his bladder and urinalysis. The vet said he looked amazing in his exam, especially for his age. The only thing she noticed was he flinched when she felt his lower abdomen, which could support the bladder issue theory, or it could just be because he’s pretty jumpy at the vet. I had a very…[Read more]
