Both vets (exotic, rabbit-experienced) that I have worked with with my Wick (treated for syphilis) mention that it can take a long time for the PCR blood test to show a decrease in syphilis antibodies. Did/is your rabbit showing signs of having syphilis still?

Hey thanks for the picture, because that has a strange tip on it that doesn’t show up in the first result I would have found. I’m assuming those end tips are removeable? Do you have to have it on when feeding the bun or taking the medicine up?
The other question I was going to ask was there anything else you guys recommend having on hand for…[Read more]

Also forgot to mention that my syringes were given to me by my vet, so maybe your vet could just give you a couple?
Simethicone (baby gas drops) is for sure safe for buns, it’s often given to help with gas in bunnies. It’s another good thing to have on hand in your bunny first-aid kit. 🙂

That one you posted looks like it has a narrow tip, but you could always cut it to make it wider. I don’t think 12 mL would be too unweildy!
If you search 6 cc Monoject syringe, that looks exactly like the ones I use. I haven’t had a problem with the tip getting clogged, Critical care is pretty finely milled. I can imagine using pellet mash might…[Read more]

Hey guys, really appreciate the insight. I also called my vet; they mentioned they use a curved tip 12 ml syringe. (They also said that the important thing is getting a wider mouth than a normal syringe so it doesn’t get gunked up.) However, I’m also a little worried about what Dana mentioned, that it might be difficult not to squirt out too much…[Read more]

The vet said it is a uti so TMS antibiotics. The sneezing, since there’s no discharge, the vet said it may just be seasonal combined with the stress of weekly shots. If it gets worse then they’ll check her again.

I did talk to the vet about increasing the frequency but was told no. The last blood test a few weeks ago put her at .389 which is mildly positive. She’s halfway through another round of penicillin and then we’ll do another blood test. I also asked if there was another medication she could take to help the penicillin be more effective but was told…[Read more]

How long is the penicillin treatment intended to go for? 6 months seems very long for treatment, and if syphilis symptoms aren’t improving, I think more frequent intervals might be needed though definitely discuss with your vet. My rabbit was treated for syphilis and I did daily penicillin shots for 3 weeks.

She’s at 6months of weekly penicillin injections and at this rate I’m not hoping to be done with it any time soon. I also have 2 buns so I’m worried something might get passed between them. She’s been sneezing every day for a week & each day was a bit more sneezing and she’ll sneeze doing different things so I doubt it’s her hay like I first…[Read more]

A urinary problem might not always be caused by a bacteria that is susceptible to penicillin, and also there might be actual anatomical things going on that is causing the pee-spotting (ex. muscle control, bladder stone…).
If the sneezing is recurrent (i.e. it wasn’t just a single sneeze or two), then I would definitely consider having your vet…[Read more]

I honestly have never paid attention to what laundry detergent I’ve used… I just make sure I never dry the rabbit stuff with dryer sheets. Ordinarily, the detergent should be fully washed out by the time it’s done the wash, so whatever the detergent is, it won’t matter too much. I’d say maybe avoid the detergents that advertise having lasting…[Read more]

Mine goes to sleep at like 1-2pm and sleeps until 6-7pm because of that I’m little worried she will be all alone in the morning.
Aww thank you, im definitely going to look that up !!

she’s still on penicillin for her syphilis so I didn’t think that was possible?

DanaNM replied to the topic Bunny schedule in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 7 months ago
That sounds fine to me. Before covid, I think most people had to leave their bunnies alone when they went to work, and I’m guessing she sleeps a lot during that time.
There are lots of DIY “boredom buster” toys you can make if you think she is getting bored in her cage (especially good for the times she is active but has to be in her cage).

Yes okay I understand:) I try to spend as much time as I can with my bunny since she is the only bunny I have.
I plan on maybe give her some friend but it’s not possible until I have moved out.
Is the bunny okay alone when I go to work from 7am to like 3:30pm? :/
Sorry I’m just being really nervous to give her the best I can haha
