If the vets say she has spurs, and she has symptoms (gut issues), I would file them and see if that helps since it seems like you have ruled out other possible causes?
Does she seems to improve with pain meds only? Or does she need motility meds?
Can you remind me what her treatment regimen is? There are some bunnies that need to be on…[Read more]

Saurad replied to the topic crying and now my bunny hates me, will he get over it? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago
So sorry you were not feeling well. I hope you are better now. I agree with the others, I’m sure he doesn’t hate you and I would definitely do what pinkiemarie said if you can.
This is what it has worked for me:
My rabbit gets very scared with loud noises. If he is very terrified and needs hiding, I leave some herbs/treats next to him and try to…[Read more] -

We have 5 house rabbits, a bonded pair and a trio (each group in separate bunny pens). They are all pretty old at this point: four of them are 9+ years old and the last one is at least 6-8 years old. [Adopted, so we’re not 100% sure on the ages.]
They have all had good litter habits, but in the last year, the trio have decided that the li…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Small space making things worse? in the forum BONDING 5 years, 6 months ago
Glad to hear things are back on track!
Never feel bad about taking a break during marathons when it just is not going well. Sometimes the bunnies just need a break too!
I think the best rule for bonding is if it’s going well, keep doing that same thing! If it’s not, try something else 😉

You’ve been given some really great advice so far, just wanted to offer some encouragement that it most likely will get much better after spaying! I volunteer at a shelter and we often have rabbits surrendered that are unspayed and are just MESSY, smelly, and kind of crazy. After spaying they calm wayyyyy down and box habits return. So don’t loose…[Read more]

Glad you found some sort of solution! That’s interesting about the velvet texture, I’ll have to keep that in mind!

DanaNM replied to the topic Carrier dimensions for 2 buns? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago
Are those dimensions in inches or cm? If inches that seems too big.
Typically a carrier meant for a large cat works great for 2 bunnies. You don’t want them to have too much space to slide around.

Update – he has periods where he doesn’t care about digging and others when he goes back to be very into it. I have upgraded his digging box with another type of sand and making it bigger, but it doesn’t look like it makes him be less obsessed with the bed digging. I now cover the bed with a velvet texture cover and it prevents him from digging.…[Read more]

Hi all!
I will soon be adopting a new bun to bond with my current bunny. I’m trying to decide on what carrier size to buy for carrying both of them. Would the dimensions 34 W x 50.7 L x 30 H cm be ok for two 2kg bunnies? Shall I get a bigger one?
Thanks for the advice!

Hi there, Wick has written a lovely post for you above this one, and I agree with everything she has said. You and your partner made the best decision for your rabbit, spaying is one of the most responsible things you can do as an owner and shows how much you cared for her. I am so sorry that your rabbit passed away. I am sending peace and good…[Read more]

Let’s hope so. If I do end up being a vet, I want to make sure to tell people how to properly care for their pets. One of our exotic animal vets here knows a crap ton about reptiles, but doesn’t know a damn thing about rodents, rabbits, or birds. They actually advised against spaying our females and said to only neuter our males when we first got…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for your loss. When this happens, which is uncommon, very often it is due to a congenital, underlying issue in the rabbit that no one could have known/detected. It is not your fault. You did the best any rabbit owner could ask for, which was take her to a vet that is comfortable with spaying her and having her checked for health. With…[Read more]

My beautiful little 6 month old bunny died a few days ago and I can’t stop blaming myself. After recommendation from a vet I booked her in to get spayed- she appeared perfectly healthy during her recent check up and vaccinations. She went in to get spayed however the vet phoned to tell me that she had reacted badly to the anaesthesia and arrested…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic What rabbit breed is right for me? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 5 years, 6 months ago
There are generally no breed-specific personality differences that are consistent enough to give you an answer, in my opinion. All breeds have their share of a wide range of personalities.
In terms of size, I think outside of a Flemish Giant, dwarves to normal size rabbits all require the same amount of “as much as you can” size. The difference…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Need advice on working out dominance in the forum BONDING 5 years, 6 months ago
Important question: Bite or nip?
I understand a nip for a larger rabbit can be veering towards the same pain as a bite to the receiving smaller rabbit, but I think a part of the bonding process may need to be the larger rabbit realizing that the nipping does not amount to anything productive. It also tells me that when you’re petting them, the…[Read more]

Wick & Fable replied to the topic Cat or Rabbits? (Comparison) in the forum THE LOUNGE 5 years, 6 months ago
Majority of rabbits are not cuddly. Also, I think the deciding factor between a cat or rabbit should not be cuddliness as both animals have individuals who love, tolerate, and hate it.
Differences that are more constant between cats and rabbits that I can think of are:
- Routine veterinary costs – Rabbits are usually more expensive because they…

So for those of you who have read my previous topics you know that I am bonding a lovely pair of neutered males with a very sassy spayed female. Things have been going very slowly but I know they can be bonded.

Lucy is doing great with us so far. She loves her new ex-pen home base and is eating well, she also took to her litter box very quickly! I was a bit worried since her previous owner didn’t have her use one, but I guess I had forgotten how good bunnies usually are at using them! I have a…[Read more]
