Hi all,
I’ve mentioned in posts before but wondering if anyone has any first hand experience. My Ruby bun refuses any greens I’ve tried to feed her. I’ve been to two vets and both said it was OK due to her eating plenty of hay. I don’t worry about it since she is healthy, but I’m curious to know if anyone has known an older bun who never ate…[Read more]

DanaNM replied to the topic Sore hock or callous? in the forum DIET & CARE 5 years, 5 months ago
At the moment it looks somewhere between a callus and early sore hock to me at the moment, but definitely something to keep an eye on. Since it’s exposed I’m leaning toward early sore, whereas calluses are usually covered by a flap of fur.
I think with being a rex and a tripod that would put him at increased risk of developing a sore hock.
Can…[Read more]

I have a tripod bunny, Oreo, he’s a one year old Rex. I noticed this little pink spot on him today. It isn’t inflamed or all that red and it doesn’t have an open wound or look infected at all. Is this sore hocks? I’ve also read that they can develop calluses and with him only having one back leg I am unsure if that is what happened here since he…[Read more]

I agree 100% with others that your bun is normal! II also refer to my bunnies as gremlins LOL
There are some very prominent rabbit youtube channels that I don’t think portray what most rabbits are like at all, and often promote what I consider to be pretty dangerous activities, without giving any real context or disclaimers. Rabbits are…[Read more]

One thing to keep in mind is something you mentioned, which is if you did a video, it wouldn’t turn out that way…. The people who have rabbits who are not that way are not going to post those videos/pictures. In short, there’s a close to 100% hit rate because people self-select into publishing that stuff. They can, because their rabbits have…[Read more]

That’s a good idea. You have a point with social media’s chosen content and that people do want to only show the best of their experiences, so that’s probably the case. Also, I never actually thought of the x-pen and cover idea. We could even have a little sheltered hangout in there, which would be so cute! I’m glad it’s a normal occurrence though. Thanks!

There’s nothing unusual about your rabbit. People will post pics and videos of their rabbits acting fine in unusual situations, but keep in mind that those are the exception, not the rule. People don’t post about their rabbit freaking out in a stroller because it doesn’t make for cute social media content. Most rabbits won’t like being put on…[Read more]

Hi, this is a thought that’s been on my mind on months ever since I got my rabbit Toasty. Yet again, I am posting due to the little gremlin, well, being a gremlin.
So something I’ve noticed is that in Youtube videos with rabbits, where people will renovate the setup space or do some activity, their rabbits always willingly hang around them. I…[Read more]

Happy to hear she’s started her treatment. 🙂 I bet she’ll be better in no time. Your new vet sounds great.

UPDATE: After I took her to another vet, he found that her left leg has ankylosis. Also the vet palpation a tumor in vagina with his hand
He also told us that a tooth has grown too much and passed through into her gum.
I don’t know if my rabbit is spayed or not. We found her abandoned when she was like around 3 month old -

The new vet consulted with an exotic expert from IDEXX to discuss the best course of treatment. They both were in agreement that previous vet did not keep Charlie on antibiotics long enough. He said any of the ones she has been on should have taken care of the issue. He also researched all the latest information before calling me in addition to…[Read more]

Thank you Dana and wick for the replies :).
That raises my hopes a bit knowing bunnies that have pulled through the shots and have sneezed as long/longer than our current time line.
Dana – Psyron had a good scratch on her side that we thought had the end of a nail in it. Turns out it was just a little scab so we kept an eye on it for…[Read more]

Sorry to hear about Psyron. One of my rabbits actually had a very persistent upper respiratory infection and penicillin shots was the last treatment we tried because it ended up working in tandem with Baytril. At that point, he had been sneezing for over 4 months, so don’t feel too disheartened by the time line!

Thanks for the update, sorry to hear about Psyron. 🙁 Hopefully the pen injections helped. I had to give a bun sub-cutaneous penicillin shots and he handled them like a champ.
Agree it’s best to wait until everyone is healthy to resume sessions. How badly was Psyron injured?

Poor little guy. 🙁
You might end up needing to syringe feed him for a bit, hopefully your vet can give some pain meds etc. to help him feel better!

Okay, that sounds good to me. He is definitely still showing signs of stress, but he’s slowly picking up more interest in food and I’m supplementing him with the forced critical care. He even turned down fruit earlier, so he must be feeling crummy for sure.
Thank you again for all of your help! This has been so scary. Bunbun means the world to me.
