It really depends on where you live as well as the size of the providers. I would say $300+ is definitely on the higher end and I do not think that cost is justified if you have an alternative, trustworthy provider who is offering less.

What have y’all paid for rabbit neuters?

Called around today and got a HUGE difference…from $70 (the shelter) to over $300!

One was $125 from a vet I’ve used before, think that is the way to go.  Shelter is a long way out on appointments anyhow.

Don’t think I would bring Tater along, just for the reason that I doubt he will behave normally in a date after such a long drive (esp given that you know he stresses out after the vet). Plus having to make the round trip would be hard on him.

As for bringing a new bun home, I would line the carrier with some litter or a pee pad and fluffy hay,…[Read more]

I would separate, as Wick said. But I think you will have a pretty easy bond afterward.

Right now her hormones are making him mount more excessively, even though he’s neutered. The issue is that she could get tired of the mounting and lash out aggressively, or become overly stressed by it.

If you continue to let them live side by side, they…[Read more]

The garage could be great, as long as it’s not too hot. Perhaps it would be best to do session at night or early morning when it’s cool?

The slippery floor could actually work to your advantage. Rabbits are usually less apt to fight when they can’t get good footing, so as long as the floor is clean I wouldn’t worry about putting down towels yet.…[Read more]

Rabbits can be so quirky sometimes! I think they can get very used to a bun being in one place, but when they are in another place they can be like “who the heck is invading!?”

It could also be triggered by Quincy’s behavior. Quincy just minding his business in his pen is no big deal, but maybe when Fresno sees him moving around more around the…[Read more]

Okay on Saturday I’m traveling 4 hours to meet potential fosters/adoptables. I’ve only traveled a handful of times over 2 hours with my rabbits. What should I bring to keep him/her stress free?

I thought about bringing Tater since they’ve opened bonding sessions back up. BUT he travels poorly in the car. Just going to the vet stresses him out t…[Read more]

I actually didn’t even think about the garage. My apartment has a garage, so I could move my car out and use that. It gets pretty hot in there though, so I might have to bring a couple of fans since it’s getting warmer. My bunnies hate running on smooth surfaces, though, so I would probably have to bring a couple of old towels and blankets dow…[Read more]

Mounting is a natural part of the rabbit bonding process and will often occur once the formal bonding process starts. That being said, it can be stressful and harmful, even if the perpetrating rabbit doesn’t intend to be, and work needs to be put in to ensure the mounting is an appropriate amount and is productive, rather than harmful to the…[Read more]

    Hello,

I got some great advice from this forum a few months ago when we got our new bun, Coconut, and hoping you can help me out again. Coconut is now about 7 months old and was neutered about 6 weeks ago. We recently bought a 7 month old female, Butterscotch, with the plan to spay her and then bond the two together to give Coconut some company.…[Read more]

Whether you are a new bunny parent or not, please be aware of E. Coniculi and both varrients of RHDV.  E. Coniculi is a fungus I beleive.  It attacks the brain and important organs, like the kideneys.  Rabbits might tilt their head to the side a lot or seize.  If you see tbis please take your bunny to the vet ASAP.  They do have a medication to c…[Read more]

It’s actually when I let Quincy out and she goes up to them that it happens, if she’s next to them in her setup while they’re in theirs it’s completely fine lol. The logic isn’t there but Fresno doesn’t know that. 😂 I’m sure Nora hopes his grumpiness will subside soon!! Poor girl.

I am so sorry this happened to you!  I can’t image how scary that must have been for you.  My rabbit died fairly suddenly as well.  The vet said her kidneys failed, but that doesn’t should like what happened with you.  RHD is possible, but if Bambi was eating grass outside, it is likely she choked.  I am not sure if you are a new bunny mom but…[Read more]

Yeah, it’s interesting. Many rescues and rabbit welfare organizations now recommend larger spaces, but there are some popular blogs and youtube channels that say small spaces, so that seems to have taken hold. Small space bonding falls in the category of “flooding”, which was a type of behavioral therapy that was used a lot in dogs in the past,…[Read more]

I do not know anything about skinguard, but  I am curious about your vet’s connection between ear infection treatment and runny nose/watery eyes. That sounds like treating for a URI (upper respiratory infection) would be good to explore. It’s possible your rabbit has/had both an ear infection and a URI, and/or one is related to the…[Read more]

Sounds like referred aggression, and my money is on spring fever!

Putting up a towel or a blanket to block their view is the right move. That’s what I’ve had to do at times when housing a single bun next to a bonded pair.

Im guessing in a few weeks things will settle again and you can slowly remove the barrier. Or if it persists you might con…[Read more]

I took my Holland lop to the vet 3 weeks ago because his nose was runny and eyes watering. The vet said he had ear infection in left ear. I gave him ear drops, eye drops, and oral medicine. I just took him back for checkup and since his nose is still running. Vet said most of ear infection is gone but is ear openings are very small and that he may…[Read more]

I guess this is less advice seeking and more just… expressing my sadness. This behavior has never happened before and just started a couple days ago. Nora and Fresno are housed literally right by Quincy, and all has always been well as long as there are grids separating them. All 3 of them occasionally lay by each other peacefully. But lately,…[Read more]

I use my fingers to gently work fur clumps that have released out. I rub my fingers together so it clumps together and doesn’t fly everywhere and make a pile while petting.
