Fruits aren’t important, they’re actually treats and  they’re unnecessary if you’re bun dislikes them. I suggest cutting back to less than a fourth a cup or possibly an eighth of a cup of pellets so she’ll be more hungry for her pellets and veggies. But as long as she’s not gorging on pellets, is eating lots of hay, and her weight is staying…[Read more]

So actually, if you have good-quality complete pellets (see here: http://www.therabbithouse.com/diet/rabbit-food-comparison.asp), then your rabbit is getting everything she needs from hay and pellets. Veggies are a nice addition for stimulation and just another source of those other vitamins and minerals, but pellets actually cover those…[Read more]

Hi, I just got a new rabbit Willow. She is a one-year-old holland lop. My other rabbit devours fruits and veggies. Willow does not touch them. She eats hay and pellets fine, but I know vegetables are a critical part of rabbit’s diets. I only got her a week ago so I have not tried many different options yet, but she seems like she will not be…[Read more]

How long did you “cement” the bond before moving them to their home cage?

You could also try taking them on a car ride together.

I can’t move them back to a netuarl area. I did go though the bonding process a little quick, but I made sure that things went well before putting them in the same cage. We built a new cage when they were bonded so it was netuarl. There aren’t any health issues thankfully.

It’s great you noticed this change! There can be little chases etc. in some pairs (esp if one is overly food excited), but them becoming more distant is more of a concern. If I recall, you moved through the bonding process pretty quickly, so you may have just moved a bit too fast from neutral territory into non-neutral.

Can you move them back to…[Read more]

It can be natural for friends to just “mellow out” with each other, but I would keep an eye if you notice more tense interactions. They might have a hiccup in the relationship that needs to be worked out. At the same, if you notice that it is escalating to risky interactions that may cause injury, I’d recommend separating them and back tracking…[Read more]

My bunnies were bonded a few weeks ago and were doing great, lots of cuddles, grooming, playing. Now though there seems to be a lot less grooming, cuddles don’t happen much at all anymore maybe 1 every 2-3 days, and they don’t seem to play with each other much. They also tend to be more seperated other thank when they are eating. I got woken up…[Read more]

Thank you both! I also contacted the breeder and she said that sometimes an injury like that can happen because of over grooming by the mother, she said she had never known a bunny cause it to themselves, so I think you are right with it being a previous injury. There was a little bit left which he has also now nibbled off 🙈 hopefully that will be…[Read more]

Am I correct in that damson is a type of plum?

If so, then unfortunately no. The leaves and wood of the drupe group of fruits (stone fruits: peaches, plums, cherries, apricots, almonds) are toxic to rabbits.

Apple, pear, loquat, and citrus leaves and branches are all safe though, if you have any of those around.
