Since Boon crossed the rainbow bridge in March, I’ve been very sad, but felt very blessed to have had him in my life, for all he’s taught me.

But now, I just feel so empty. His bonded mate, Phenom, is a very shy little girl and doesn’t like to be bothered. The ONLY other entity she would actually put up with, was Boon. I was very surprised when they hit it off! I was certain she wouldn’t like anybun after her first mate, Beau, went over the rainbow bridge. But Boon was just that kinda guy. Irresistable to the ladies.

She is only a few years old… and already lost 2 mates. *sigh*

So, I’ve been looking for another special little boy to bond her with. Maybe one that reminds me of Boon. Not to replace him, that’d be impossible as he’s irreplaceable. But someone for Phenom and me to hang around with on this side of the bridge, yaknow?

Searching for a dwarf sized bun. I really love the Hotot markings, buns with colorful eyes, like the blues and lavenders… and if not the Hotot markings, then perhaps a little orange or fawn colored bun.

What I’m searching for the most in a bun is that extra affectionate personality. Not just because we all love outgoing buns, and not just ’cause Boon was outgoing and friendly, but also because I really think that those are the kinds of buns that bring little Phenom out of her shell. She seems to bond well with the friendly guys.

My local shelters have a lot of buns up for adoption, but I’m not really sure about them, because they don’t get to be very well socialized and not many of them are very small– I definitely need a dwarf sized boy.

There were a lot of lil buns that fit the criteria I wanted in a bun, on Petfinder’s bunnyworldfoundation rescue, but they are across the country. I did write to BWF, and told them I was interested in some of their buns, but they said that it is just too far. Understandable, tho. *sigh*

And so goes my journey of Searching for “The Bun.” (play on words… aka The One, lol).

If you aren’t sure about the buns at your shelter, go in and meet them Often they can seem shy and unsocialized in the cages, but if they have a meeting space you can use to interact with the buns, quite often they open up big time! That’s how it usually happens at the shelter I volunteer at. Give it a try!

I agree with Monkeybun. Also Humane society is another good place to check or even the pound. A lot of them don’t post online and you never know, you might find the right bun for you! I found my Sweets that way. And I lucked out that her and Bunjamin were a fairly easy bond.

Wellllll there’s an itty bitty detail I left out.

I struggle with agoraphobia due to having a neurological disease of my own. It’s one of those “invisible” diseases that you wouldn’t be able to see just by looking at me, but it makes traveling very difficult.

When I found Boon, it was purely by accident. I was in a local pet store picking up pet food and just noticed him and his littermates, entirely too young to be sold, for sale. They were infants. I felt the need to rescue them, so I did, but fell in love with Boon, and kept him.

There are two local shelters, and one pound nearby. But none of these places is actually close. More like 45 min away. Out of my comfort zone. I do have a fiance, he usually takes the buns to the vet when they’re sick, altho the vet is closer so I could, in theory take them if I had to. I suppose it’d be a good idea to try and push myself out there to find The “Bun” .. But I’ll be honest, after having Boon, I’m not sure I’ll ever connect with another like that. :\

Nova, I know exactly what you’re struggling with. I suffer the same thing. more so when I am alone, anyways.

Anyhoo, Maybe if you see a bun you like at a shelter online your fiance can go look at him? Or Just explain to your fiance what kind of temperament you’re looking for and then he can go to the shelter and tell a worker and they can show him the buns that meet that criteria.

That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing, but browsing Petfinder, I see a lot of buns but not any that seem to fit all the criteria that I’m looking for.

I think if *I* actually went to the shelter, with Phenom and my fiance, and actually met the bunnies, there would be a better chance of me connecting with one of them than just guesswork.

It’s so frustrating. :\ So I’ve just been making inquiries at this point…

Is it easier for you if you go with someone? Have music on, chat, the time would go by faster then. Or see if they have any rabbits foster closer to you?

Oh sweetie, I didn’t realize you had agoraphobia. I empathize. I have it myself and my daughter has it very bad. It is extremely difficult to surmount.
Is there ever a chance of bunnies being surrendered or put up for adoption at your vet’s? My vet sometimes offers this service for animals being brought in that people have to move and can’t take them and my vets will sometimes hold them at the office until arrangements can be made for a new home or for the local rescues to pick them up. A long shot I’m guessing, but it’s worth a try?
I hope you can find a bun to suit both you and Phenom. Thinking of you. xx

oh, yeah, I rarely go anywhere alone. *sigh*

No vet that I know of does any of that stuff for buns – but I think, they do for cats. I’m looking for The Bun, tho. lol.

I may just call up a few shelters and ask them if they have any overly friendly buns that are small in size, male, etc. I mean, they may not be on Petfinder yet, but maybe they are expecting some.

I hate that I sound like I’m being so picky. But I really need to connect with the bun and Phenom is real picky, too. She only digs the friendly guys. Will definitely keep you all up to date.

Staying in touch with some foster carers might be the way to go. They could bring some rabbits for you to meet. Often they like to do a home check of potential adopters anyway.

I agree about meeting different rabbits. See if they differ from descriptions given. A rabbit can blossom in the right place. So though it may come across as shy initially, this could be result of the environment they’re in. Number of other rabbits or animals around them. Even in a foster home.

Isn’t Tanlover14 in your city? I suggest sending her a PM if you haven’t already as i believe she has a number of contacts in rabbit rescue.

                          I think it’s great you’re looking to adopt another!! : )
Boon may send one your way.
