FWIW, my buns like both the regular Oxbow essentials and the Garden Select, but the Garden Select gave Bun Jovi really soft sticky cecals. He’s disabled and senior though, so he’s a bit more sensitive. I currently feed Sherwood’s timothy pellet that you feed in the smaller portions, but I’m going to try their free-choice for Bun Jovi to see if it…[Read more]

Stasis recovery can be slow, as Dana says. Did they run any bloodtests? I too think x-rays could be good. Liver values tend to get elevated by stasis alone, but sometimes there is an underlying acute liver problem.
0.8 of 1.5 mg/ml loxicom isnt a huge lot unless Glenn is very tiny. Vets often underdose meloxicam (substance name of Loxicom,…[Read more]

Medirabbit has a really good article on Megacolon and even provides photos for reference: http://www.medirabbit.com/EN/GI_diseases/Mega/mega_en.htm
There does seem to be a lot of gray area when it comes to this condition. There are bunnies that do not meet all the criteria for Megacolon, but will have a lot of GI stasis and poop issues that come…[Read more]

The link Dana provided is very helpful for researching many different foods at once. Figure out what is available to you and then look those up on the chart. You can easily compare that way.
For the record, Oxbow Essentials is fine and a lot of bunnies like it. Anecdotal experience – My bunny did not like the Oxbow Garden Select. He turned his…[Read more]

Ughh I’m so sorry! Having one poorly bun is hard enough, having two is just so difficult.
So the short answer is it can take time for treatments to work, as maddening as that is. But he might also need stronger/different pain meds and/or a different motility med depending on what part of his gut has slowed down. Fluids can also be really…[Read more]

’Hello, its been a little while since I last posted.
I have been having a bit of a hard time with the buns the last week. Nellie had another bout of not eating and slow guts, sore tummy on Tuesday – Thursday, getting back to an acceptable eating and popping rhythm by Friday, shes still a little off her hay…[Read more]

I’m sorry you are going through this. 🙁
The pics did not come through, but it does sound like megacolon is a possibility, but not the only possibility. It would be important to rule out things like parasites or diet sensitivity before concluding it’s for sure megacolon. If her poops are normal sometimes, it suggests that something else could be…[Read more]

Oxbow is a good food, but it is not the only one!
I like using this chart to compare brands:

You can also read more about what to look for in a pellet and how to tell if it has good nutrition here:

There is no one single brand that really is…[Read more]

So I just found out that our hardware store (affiliated with Ace Hardware) sells Kaytee forti-diet natural pellets rabbit food and they can not be returned once bought. To avoid getting bad pellets again, is the Oxbow Essentials actually good for rabbits? I won’t be able to get pellets for so many months (I was told to just finish what I have and…[Read more]

hi everybun! this post is about my sweet girl, coffee bean who is spayed and almost 4 years old. i believe she may have megacolon. i have been doing my thorough research on megacolon. i am hoping our regular rabbit vet will be savvy enough to agree with me on this diagnosis. what leads me to suspect that she has megacolon:*gets critically sick… -

This sounds like it could be EC. My senior started showing symptoms around age 12. Circling/spinning and scanning was a main symptom for him. Ear infections do not cause neuro affects, but EC definitely does. I recommend talking to your vet about this. EC tests are unreliable, but many vets will treat on suspicion. Treating my bun helped a lot, he…[Read more]

Hi all. I was here back at the end of December to ask about my holland lop Blu and his ear infection/ head tilt. Well we’ve treated everything but here we are almost 3 months later and he is still only about to turn to the left when moving about. He is still pretty strong, and can take a step or two now in the forward direction, but he mostly o…[Read more]

Rabbits do like to pee on the ones they love. In the rabbit universe, its a compliment. It tends to subside with spaying/neutering, but intact rabbits can be quite determined when it comes to peeing on their human. Rabbits also like to pee on soft things like beds and sofas, and that often goes for both intact and spay/neutered rabbits.
It’s very…[Read more]

Now I need to ask this. Why? Why do the pee on my bed? I was all excited that my little gray and white bun was coming to see me. He just paused on my hip and peed. This bunny has rocks for brains so I’m not thinking he’s claiming anything but his mom does it also. She waits until she out of reach and then gives me the side eye. Sometimes I for…[Read more]
