Hi fellow bunny owners, I am in an emergency right now. My bunny went to the vet yesterday for her first ever vaccine. But it was a disaster. She jumped out of the scale and jumped from the really high counter onto the floor. Today i realised that she could not use her front left arm/paw. She raises it aboev the ground when hopping around. Please can somebody help me figure out if it is a strain or if it is broken. I can not afford to get surgery.

If it’s broken or a strain, you *need* to take her in. Whether it’s a strain or a broken bone, it’s extremely painful for a rabbit, for one, so she’ll need painkiller. Second, if it’s broken, it should be put in a splint or something so it’ll heal properly.

I’ve gone through both a broken bone and a sprain with bunnies. The latter turned out better than the former but it still requires care so bun isn’t left with a permanent limp or worse damage.

While you may not be able to afford surgery, can you afford a vet visit? As with humans, if you don’t treat a damaged limb properly it can get much worse, which would increase whatever cost needed to repair and help. If it’s been a day and she’s still holding it up, I’d recommend a rabbit vet, as that’s the only way to know what exactly is going on beneath.

How is your bun doing now?

Surgery is rarely an option when a bun breaks a limb. Only very few rabbit specialists can pin a bunny leg back together, so in most cases, you apply a supportive splint or a cast and let the bone heal. Rabbits have good bone renewal capacities. Movement should be restricted, which means cage rest.

There is a possibility that this is a soft tissue injury, in which case a splint could still be useful. A vet can palpate the leg and/or x-ray it, and they can prescribe painkillers. Pain relief is very important in rabbits. If they are in pain they can lose their appetite and go into stasis.

since this happened at the vets office then they are fully responsible for your buns injury. I would demand that the vet take of this now! My vet performs exams on all buns on the floor only, while she sits with them as she knows a bun can and will jump off the high up exam table and injure themselves. I feel just awful for your sweet bunny. Good Luck, and please contact the vet. after this you need to find a better bunny doctor. vets like this make me angry.

Definitely tell your vet, they should take full responsibility of it and pay for it. My vet always has multiple people handle rabbits and small animals so there is close to no chance of them hopping away
